A shock indeed.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 14-Aug-26 20:06:26

How incredibly sad, that poor man.

Aldom Fri 14-Aug-26 20:07:39

Sorry to hear of a death FGT, but who is Jason Arday please?

Wyllow3 Fri 14-Aug-26 20:13:28

Oh no....
Was it needful, the level of attacks on him...perhaps Cambridge had its reasons for wanting it to be lower key than many demanded....he resigned, and still the comments, it was obvious there were trauma and a troubled mind..

Oh, it's dreadful. 😢

LizzieDrip Fri 14-Aug-26 20:13:54

What?

Is this true?

Georgesgran Fri 14-Aug-26 20:14:07

That is sad. Despite his ‘behaviour’ he was a human being, a son, lover, sibling - whatever.

A professor Aldom - it’s been in the papers all last week. There’s a thread about him in GN in N&P

Wyllow3 Fri 14-Aug-26 20:15:46

There was a whole thread on him and the issues, Aldon
You'll find out a lot there. Controversy.

I think that he must have been a very fragile person. The stress must have been unbearable.

RIP

Aldom Fri 14-Aug-26 20:17:19

Oh gosh, yes of course Georgesgran. Thank you for jogging my memory.
This is indeed very sad news. I'm so sorry.
My condolences to his family and friends. flowers

Wyllow3 Fri 14-Aug-26 20:17:24

Icarus. 😭

Doodledog Fri 14-Aug-26 20:20:03

I can't begin to imagine how stressful and just awful it must be to live with so much humiliation and vitriol - so many people thinking they know how universities work, and what his motives must have been, banging on about him when they haven't even met him (not to mention the ridiculous 'race card' comments).

It would be bad enough being 'the talk of the steamie' as people used to say about women being gossiped about, but when people up and down the land are being so horrible it must be unbearable. That poor man. He may have brought some of it on himself, but did he really deserve that?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 14-Aug-26 20:20:46

Yes, he was a professor.

LizzieDrip Fri 14-Aug-26 20:22:13

With respect … I can’t find any reports / chat GPT etc saying that Jason Arday has died.

FGT (or anyone) could you point me in the direction of the truth?

Tuliptree Fri 14-Aug-26 20:23:19

Plenty of people across social media positively relished laying into him. I feel truly shocked by this news

Wyllow3 Fri 14-Aug-26 20:23:37

No he did not deserve it, thank you Doodledog.
The vitriol focussed on him more than others who have quietly been eased out in the past but were not DEI appointments.

Oh god - good point . If this isn’t true I feel sick. It never crossed my mind to check - idiot

I feel terrible for this young man and his loved ones. Whatever he did it was not done to harm anyone and who is perfect in this world. The amount of publicity his case attracted and obviously the amount of venomous responses on social media was totally uncalled for. It was handled very badly.

Wyllow3 Fri 14-Aug-26 20:26:49

In some major newspapers, waiting to see if its out beyond GB news, Telegraph and Times, I imagine the BBC is triple checking.

Elegran Fri 14-Aug-26 20:27:32

There are news items about it, but they are in newspapers like the Times and Telegraph (and the Sun) with paid subscriptions so I couldn't read them. Apparently he was found unresponsive at home and was discovered to be dead.

Tuliptree Fri 14-Aug-26 20:27:55

Plenty of people loved yes loved piling in on him. Will they reflect? Like hell they will

LizzieDrip Fri 14-Aug-26 20:29:13

It’s OK, just seen a Telegraph headline about it (can’t read the report).

Absolutely tragic!

The media, social and mainstream, need to take a good look at themselves and remember there’s a human being behind every ‘story’.

I’m shocked - that’s why I couldn’t quite believe it at first.

Magenta8 Fri 14-Aug-26 20:32:17

Terrible news. I think he was a fantasist but there was no indication that he was malicious or horrible in any way. Poor man, the unwanted and unwarranted publicity must have been too much for him to bear. How awful for his family and friends. RIP

Tuliptree Fri 14-Aug-26 20:32:41

Read the GN threads on him, the vitriol, the pleasure in his fall from grace. Note the posters. As if they care

MawsRosie Fri 14-Aug-26 20:36:42

Come on, where have you been?

Indeed.
