A shock indeed.

He said the speculation, accusations and social media had a profound affect on him and his family. How cruel and tragic.

And what help did he get from Cambridge?? I can’t imagine how tortured he would have felt.
Yes he was possibly
a “Walter Mitty” character but have we learned nothing from the death of Caroline Flack?

Fallingstar Fri 14-Aug-26 21:05:21

I didn’t comment on the thread about him on here because tbh I have made some bad decisions in my life and done things I am ashamed of, none of which hurt anyone but myself and if social media had been around back then and crucified me I don’t know what I would have done because I was already at my weakest.
People are fallible.
My heart goes out to his wife and children. 💐

Oohh the reporters are at it. Truth hurts

I’m so sad to hear this- RIP Jason Arday.

The intense level of pile on against him must have been unbearable - so very very sad.

Death by a thousand atrocious words.

Each one piled on top of another, until the burden became so great that his psyche could bear no more.

Tuliptree Fri 14-Aug-26 20:58:26

Well plenty on here relished it and are continuing to do so

Good God Silver Shadow, they already went for the jugular with this young man, it was dealt with so badly. Let’s not add to it now please.
There is a time and a place.

Not for some - absolutely unbelievable.

That was to perfect silver shadow - and report me, I’d wear it as a badge of honour

No, I won’t. I’ll let others read your comments. You seem very emotionally involved for some reason.

Read the GN threads on him, the vitriol, the pleasure in his fall from grace. Note the posters. As if they care

There’s two issues here actually.

First the fact that he obtained a post under deception that he was not allowed to have unless he had deceived those that interviewed him. That was wrong. It precluded another person from having that post who probably did deserve it.

Secondly, he has been found dead. I very much doubt that those calling him out on his deceit would have wanted this to happen. He should have had counselling and immediate support.

As I say, two separate issues here. Emotive statements do not help.

Terrible news. I think he was a fantasist but there was no indication that he was malicious or horrible in any way. Poor man, the unwanted and unwarranted publicity must have been too much for him to bear. How awful for his family and friends. RIP

LizzieDrip Fri 14-Aug-26 20:29:13

It’s OK, just seen a Telegraph headline about it (can’t read the report).

Absolutely tragic!

The media, social and mainstream, need to take a good look at themselves and remember there’s a human being behind every ‘story’.

I’m shocked - that’s why I couldn’t quite believe it at first.

There are news items about it, but they are in newspapers like the Times and Telegraph (and the Sun) with paid subscriptions so I couldn't read them. Apparently he was found unresponsive at home and was discovered to be dead.

Wyllow3 Fri 14-Aug-26 20:26:49

In some major newspapers, waiting to see if its out beyond GB news, Telegraph and Times, I imagine the BBC is triple checking.
