A shock indeed.

No they are exactly the same i am afraid. You just dont like cofnas ( which is fair enough). As I say there are social media posts suggesting he be hounded to death.

I don’t like his theories,, I am neutral about the man himself, but I suspect hi would find very little endearing about him.

And I reiterate they are profoundly different.

Maremia Mon 17-Aug-26 21:02:34

Are we morphing onto a new topic?

Maremia Mon 17-Aug-26 21:00:11

All posts like that are vile.

I understand why posters do it I am asking the difference between analysing his work and analysing the issues relating to ardy.

They are entirely different.

Cofnas academic history, his research etc is based on eugenics and scientific racism. He is strongly motivated as a result of his beliefs and academic work to prove his assumptions that black academics never attain their position through merit. Indeed he was sacked because of his work.

Cambridge must Cofnas suggests have given Arday his post not on merit but through bias.

This is not the first black academic that Cofnas has accused - this time however he appears to have (in his eyes) hit the jackpot.

Arday - Cofnas suggests is accused of all sorts - which I don’t want to drag up.

This has been looked into, and will be looked into. The universities will I hope learn lessons and quietly go about ensuring that something like this never happens again.

There is zero comparison.

I will not post the Good Law Project web address directly demanding a public investigation, but I have signed, and if you wish to do so google "Jason Arday: Demand a public inquiry" and view the petition and decide for yourselves.

I have signed.

Like I said, if Wyllow can direct me to the posts she says she saw then Ill happily say I got it wrong.

It’s up to Wyllow to respond.
I might have this wrong, it’s been my day for it, I’ve looked back to yesterday. This confirmed my memory of reference to the thread going round in circles with nothing more to add. I found a post from Oreo indicating that was where she’d arrived,
As ever I could see what Wyllow might be referring to. I could also understand Oreo’s point

This is an emotive subject for most of us. It’s complicated, nuanced and we only know what learned from the media.

This is the way we can make a difference.

But btw, I popped in late last night and see that some are still saying "oh well there is no ned to say more its all been said no need for the thread.

I have thought all day, only GNHQ can decide that!

I still feel every bit of sorrow, anger, distress, political outrage that I did 2 days ago, and that if I wish to say so and carry on:

its not for anyone to shut us up.

As nobody can find a post that tried to shut down this thread shall we agree that the above post was a fabrication?

There are currently social media posts suggesting cofnas be hounded to death. I too dont understand the difference between those posters analysing cofnas life, activities, etc and those who asked questions, or analysed the issues with ardy.

Analysing his academic theories though, gives you a real insight into Cofnas motivation.

Lathyrus3 Mon 17-Aug-26 19:45:00

Good, Im glad to hear that.

Social media pile ons, that coaxing and congratulating of each other regardless of who the victim is, leave a bad taste in the mouth.

I honestly don't believe there is anything about this Thread to enjoy.

No indeed. That’s why last night I said it made me feel queasy to read the posts.

Are they WhiteWave?
How interesting.

Lathyrus3 Mon 17-Aug-26 19:03:43

I think you're referring t my posts pointing out that people who condemned pile ons where - well - enjoying themselves just repeating previous stuff and agreeing with each other.

I didnt say anyone should stop. I just pointed out what I thought they were doing in contradiction to their previous expressed horror of such a thing.

In fact I asked a question.

Is a pile on Ok if you its a horrid person. So obviously I was continuing the thread, not stopping it.

Nobody answered me.

Maremia Mon 17-Aug-26 19:03:41

'Author of his own misfortune' could be construed as victim blaming.
He certainly didn't 'author' the relentless racist onslaught.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 17-Aug-26 19:02:27

iam64 coincidentally.

Ghana is seeking reparation - BBC 2 now!

Iam64 Mon 17-Aug-26 18:47:22

MaizieD D, no offence taken, good to be nudged to accuracy when feelings run high

One of the Posters appeared to be complaining about the mentioning of Cofnas.

Yes I would like to know why.

Iam64 Mon 17-Aug-26 18:46:42

I’m ms apology today, yes Lathryus and wellbeck, I did know that JA’s parents were from Ghana. Many Ghanaians were taken as slaves. As his parents came here from Ghana I suppose we can assume some of his family of origin escaped that fate.

George Floyd will be the descendent of slaves. The legacy of slavery lives on in America and the UK profited hugely in financial terms from its involvement in slavery and colonialism.

IMO it’s very difficult to analyse the events around Jason Ardy’s death and race. Some say his career success is based on positive discrimination. I don’t know enough to decide about that and I’m relieved there is to be an investigation, though we should remember Liverpool John Moores stands by its decision to award his phd. Students complaining about poor lectures or supervision isn’t unknown. I’m not dismissing the concerns which should bae investigated.

I’m not dismissing concerns JA exagerrated or fantasised - like everyone else, I only know what I’ve read in the media. What I do conclude is that the media focus and harrassment contributed to a young father taking his own life. I stress, I dint know any more than anyone else does about his vulnerability or mental health before recent events, I feel sad that this man felt no way forward and took his life, I’m very uneasy that ‘some posters’ are concluding he is the author of his own misfortunes, Is this what we are?
