Interesting.
And the children starting school here.

I see a lot of left wing hatred against them, too. Probably more when I think about it.It is not just the ‘right wing’people. You get the anti monarchists hating the whole lot of them. Possibly with reason ?

Whilst I agree, I think the vitriolic press coverage does mainly come the right, as there is very little left leaning press anymore in the UK.

Not “cancelled” sorry I meant challenged!

Iam64
I continue to be stunned by the level of anger expressed by some towards two people they’ve never met. How thoughts and feelings are projected on to them.

People, including me, tend to express anger, likes and dislikes or sympathy and good wishes about people they’ve never met, but only read about, even on GN.

The problem with the H&M is that part of the anger isn’t caused by the media.
You could ignore all the things he or she is purported to have said, as reported in the news or on the internet.
More difficult when you’ve heard it being spoken on TV, or seen it being written in a book by the perpetrators themselves coupled with the threat that there is more to come, as interpreted by them.

Exactly Mollygo. We've heard what they've said on TV and read what Harry has written; any anger I feel is based on that.

I cant quite make sense of the BBC reporting ( this may be my fault!) Does Harry have to pay the Mail 9 million or is that settlement between all the claimants.

Usedtobeblonde Fri 21-Aug-26 16:00:11

I totally agree and the lie, we were privately married 3 days ago ,the big ceremony was for show.
The ignoring of her family.
We are leaving in a week for a different life across the Atlantic.
We are now coming back to a country I said I would never set foot in again.
The books.
The interviews.
The hypocrisy.
We haven’t imagined all this, it happened.
Yes the children are totally innocent and I wish them well in their new life here.

fancythat Fri 21-Aug-26 16:00:57

I asked a poster earlier what Harry's legal bills actually are.
I dont understand either.

Galaxy Fri 21-Aug-26 16:02:44

Sorry famcythat I missed that.

It was a joint case I think, with a number of claimants, so I think the £9m is a joint charge, not individual.

They mention the 'group' so wondering if they together sued the Mail.

Nor is it all to do with racism. I think I saw that hinted at too.

The Prodigal Son was contrite and begged forgiveness. I don’t see that with Harry.

Me neither.

Galaxy Fri 21-Aug-26 16:04:43

Thanks casdon. Still a substantial amount and seems to be a possibility it could increase.

Sorry famcythat I missed that.

No worries.

Just mentioned it because agreeing with you, as in I dont understand things either.

fancythat Fri 21-Aug-26 16:06:17

Somebody, or a newspaper, has been mentioning a £50 million bill that Harry needs to pay.
For what I dont know.
But guessing he will appeal??

She could have been offered the role of Wallis Simpson in (yet another) Edward and Wallis production wink

And Harry could be the Duke of Windsor.

Double salary.

So many pronouncements and theories, and not one of them based on verifiable facts!
So, I have seen that Charles is more unwell than we are being told, that Harry’s visa application is under scrutiny, that they have run out of money, that they are returning before William ascends the throne, because he intends to strip them of their titles and banish them forever, and that Meghan has landed a BIG acting role, all from social media, or newspaper articles quoting ‘ a source’ or ‘a royal insider’, and all full of ‘reportedly’, ‘allegedly’, ‘it’s thought’ etc etc.
William’s thoughts, feelings, and intentions are apparently widely known to the internet experts, but in my opinion he has been raised to safeguard the monarchy, and if Charles and the ‘men in suits’ tell him a rift between him and Harry and Meghan would be bad for ‘The Crown’, and a reconciliation is required, then he will put his own feelings aside and smile (perhaps through gritted teeth).
My own opinion is that H&M are playing the long game, as Britain is their best hope of a secure future, so I expect they have a PR firm charged with repairing their image, probably beginning with Invictus, charitable appearances, and ‘sources close to the couple’ telling how Harry wants to spend time with King Charles, and wants his children to be educated in England, then they will sneak back into The Firm.
Just my opinion, based on absolutely nothing ( as nothing is what any of us know for sure!)

The £9m is between the 7 of them and is the interim payment that must be paid by 28th August. They have insurance that will cover this. There may be an additional £25m for the Mail's legal expenses but I think they have until November to appeal this. As far as I'm aware their insurance won' cover the entire £25m which could increase if they decide to appeal. I think that's correct as far as I've read and understand.

Galaxy Fri 21-Aug-26 16:19:43

Thanks rosie as well.
Interesting times.

Lathyrus3 Fri 21-Aug-26 16:19:50

It’s an interim payment requested by ANL while the total expenses are being assessed. It’s for all the claimants ( except maybe there’s a difference with Sir Simon Hughes?)

The full payment will be much more.

Don’t forget Harry has his own legal expenses to pay too. As part of the groups expenses and his separate advice and representation.

It will be millions upon millions in total.

Lathyrus3 Fri 21-Aug-26 16:20:55

Oh sorry Rosie. I was typing (and deleting most of the errors I hope😬)

I wonder if it will feature in The Crown?

Maybe that’s the rôle that she’s allegedly been offered.

The Crown tv series finished December 2023.

No more are planned.

Supposed to be light hearted.

Silvertwigs Fri 21-Aug-26 16:25:02

Apparently she’s been offered several parts acting, should be easy for her?

Don't worry, glad to have it confirmed and as you say that's without their own legal expenses.

Rosie51 Fri 21-Aug-26 16:35:30

Harry, in his book Spare, revealed intimate medical knowledge about William. That was crass and spiteful, and wasn't his information to share. Alongside the other 'revelations' in the book I could understand any reluctance by William to reconcile. He has not retaliated in interview or print but maintained his dignity. It's all very well that Harry, after he's vented his anger and 'side' of the story, saying the fighting should stop, but why does he think he gets to control the situation? Reconciliation is a two way affair and should involve him asking for forgiveness for his transgressions, if he can bring himself to admit to any.
It looks as if Charles has reconciled, so that is a positive, but will any of them ever feel totally at ease knowing anything they say or do could form the basis of a future book or interview? Has Harry publicly withdrawn his intent to do a follow-up book?
