So Harry and family are coming back!

I don’t know how close Harry is to his Spencer cousins but if they end up living on the Althorp estate it will eventually be at the behest of his 32 year old cousin Louis who will one day inherit the lot!

Personal preference plays a big part in what people think are reliable newspapers, and much of the comments above refer to opinion pieces rather than actual news reporting.

This is a summary of reports and reviews about the news, from Offcom, YouGov etc.

In the UK, The Financial Times and The Guardian consistently rank as the most trustworthy and accurate print/online newspaper brands in independent public surveys and media regulator reports (such as YouGov and Ofcom), alongside the BBC for broadcasting.

Top-Ranking Trustworthy Newspapers

The Financial Times: Scores highest among major newsbrands for factual reliability and minimal sensationalism, focusing primarily on economic and international reporting.

The Guardian: Frequently rated by regular readers and independent studies as the most trusted mainstream daily national newspaper for general and investigative news.

The Times: Maintains high net trust scores and a traditional broadsheet reputation, though it carries a centre-right perspective.

The Independent: Scores well for net trust among digital-first national news publications.

You pays your money and takes your choice, as they say, but be aware that if you don’t look at any of these sources you may be getting embroidery.

Reuters is also very good, and I would have expected the i to be mentioned, apparently it falls just below those mentioned.

Just so you know - I despise the DM. I buy the Guardian and the I. I look online at the DM headlines. They are often horrifying, when the revolution comes etc., etc. And today, before Dolly Parton is in her coffin, let alone her grave, the dreaded DM had a headline about her being a lesbian…

How fortunate for the DM that to have you as their publicity agent.

The Guardian's treatment of its female staff has a long history. Back in about 1990 one of them, herself in a senior editorial position, told me how unfairly women employees were dealt with compared with the men.

I am always very amused at just how much free publicity the Mail gets on here, from those professing to hate it, and are determined to inform complete strangers on here of that fact!

We always buy the printed newspaper which I think is a bit different to the online version.

For instance the two page Dolly Parton piece was mainly stating how wonderfully generous she was with charitable donations.
I only read it briefly but I couldn’t see any reference to her being a lesbian but if it had been mentioned , so what?
It certainly wouldn’t have been written as a criticism of that fact.

Don’t feel you need to justify your choices, or your opinions about other publications, as long as you understand where whatever you read fits in the news reliability rankings.

But what do those ratings mean. The Guardian is relatively high in those ratings. They said men were women, the equivalent of the flat earthers being high on the reliability scale.

The assessment relates to reliability of news coverage Galaxy, not commentary pieces.

I gave up on The Guardian because it is always so tediously self righteous.

Just while we are discussing newspapers, I was so shocked that Doreen Lawrence allowed herself to be sucked in to the completely spurious claims about the Mail group newspapers journalists.

I was shocked because the Mail had campaigned tirelessly on her behalf to track down the thugs who murdered her son.
The campaign went on for at least two years until the Mail journalists were instrumental in bringing some of the perpetrators to justice.
Doreen Lawrence of course was well aware of the campaign, but still allowed herself to believe the false claims by Harry and others. Even her ex husband was shocked.

The paper was completely exonerated, and the claimants now face several million pounds of costs to find.

Don’t get too carried away now, Associated Newspapers have been successfully sued plenty of times by celebrities, and lost. One of the biggest payouts was to Melania Trump.

Dame Doreen Lawrence was coerced into suing the Daily Mail by Harry. It has been very well documented in the media. As you rightly say, the DM had been instrumental in naming names and bringing her a modicum of justice for Stephen.
Harry lied to this poor lady about measures that the DM were taking to find out information about her. She gave what looked like a celebrity led campaign a degree of gravitas. If Harry has a shred of compassion he should pay Doreen Lawrence's costs.

I think coerced is entirely the wrong word. They had no power to force her.

Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't there a key witness they were using who turned out to be less than reliable which helped scupper their case? Or is it easier to believe the very biased reporting of the press.

Yes icanhandthemback, I heard news reports of a private detective who gave evidence on behalf of the complainants. The Court concluded he was not a reliable witness. It’s possible the complainants and their legal representatives had no reason to doubt the evidence until it was tested in Court
