If Trump does follow through with his threats, the canadians are in for a very difficult time indeed. Their imports/ exports are so tied into usa.
The EU may be one of the best answers. Indeed it may be the answer to the power imbalance in the world.

But if i was a canadian. I would certainly trade hardship for subjugation. Trump can sod off as far as i would be concerned.

He has just slapped down Trump and his silly Lake of America stunt with absolute courtesy. Just pointed out that it was called Lake Ontario long before the USA or Canada existed and as far as Canada is concerned it remains Lake Ontario.

Quick Google says 66% approval rating. A figure other free world leaders can only dream of.

I think the Canadians deserve their leader.
If it was us next door to USA, I don't think we'd have pulled together & rallied behind our leader (at a cost of some personal sacrifice for many).
We'd have spent our time criticising his bold actions.
Canadians choosing not to holiday in the USA, many with RSVs that have enjoyed doing that for years; they have united behind a cause - stand up to Trump.
No Farage's & camp-followers there saying "oh, just what we need here" & hampering concerted action.

I don't doubt that there are people in Canada who criticise Carney. It's just not making headlines currently.

Completely agree. He was a superb manager at the BoE, unlike his predecessor and successor.
Shows Trump up for the terrible person he is.
Read last week on BBC news site that more and more Canadians are avoiding the US.

Mark Carney held our economy stead through some turbulent years at the BoE. I think he's probably one of the most skilled and competent politicians around at the moment. He's in an unenviable geographical position but Canada has great resources of its own. They are reaching out worldwide where the Trump administration is building distrust and alienation. It would be good to see everyone benefit but that is always open to horrible derailment by the current US regime. How observant of Margaret Atwood....

As a Canadian, I appreciate all the support for Carney on this forum. He is such a treasure and came to us at just the right time. Cool, collected, polite but firm. We think that going forward he should speak solely in French to Trump. As far as poking the bear, someone has to and considering we have the most to lose we are not afraid of the Thing south of the border.
Our sovereignty depends on our push back.

I was just about to remind people of his successful period as Governor of the Bank of England after the 2008 financial crisis.

During the crisis he was governor of the Canadian central bank and they managed to steer clear of all the problemd we had.
