Sad news.

Saw her at the O2 - she was just great.

A talented and generous lady.

So very sad and a shock to hear that this lovely lady had gone. I didn’t realise she was 80! She was well loved and will.be missed. 💐

I don’t cry easily but I did cry when I heard she had died and watched a video she had put out explaining about her illness….
What an absolutely wonderful woman and there’s not many I can say that about….
Had a wonderful marriage, sixty years Hopefully, she’ll be reunited with Carl now….💐💐💐

Watching a programme about her on BBC1 I’ve just been reminded of my favourite Dolly quote:
When asked if she supported women’s lib she answered, ‘Yes I burned my bra but it took the fire dept. three days to put it out!’ 😂

mamaa Tue 25-Aug-26 23:31:53

MawsRosie I was about to post the same quote- it reflected her self deprecation and showed the rhinestones and wigs were the public Dolly, not necessarily the private one.
Another legend gone- what a year it’s been for so many famous losses; so sad. 😢

Not my kind of music but she was a country music legend with a real work ethic and deserved her fame.

She was a wonderful singer with a wonderful personality to match. RIP Dolly.

I just hope Trump isn't allowed anywhere near her funeral. He'll hi-jack the entire proceedings.

We visited ‘Dollywood’ a few years ago, attended the ‘Stampede’ and brought home the little plastic boot that DH had his Coca Cola in.

Just put it on display in tribute to Dolly.

I feel as though another light has gone out in the world.sad

Smileless2012 Wed 26-Aug-26 08:28:35

During an interview I saw, she was asked how long it took to do her hair. She said she didn't know, because she's never there; fabulous.

At least her musical legacy stays with us and her exceptional kindness through her giving. Dolly did break the mould in many ways. What a star as a human being. Rest in peace forever.

Harris27 Wed 26-Aug-26 08:32:00

She looked amazing right till the end. The work she did for charity was inspiring her love of books making sure children had access to them was lovely. A rare human being whose music brought country music to another level.

Watching all the clips of her performances she struck me as someone who really enjoyed what she was doing, was very good at it, and gave a great deal of pleasure to many people throughout her life.

TheWeirdoAgain60 Wed 26-Aug-26 08:46:11

I absolutely loved her; she was such a gorgeous lady both inside and out. Never anything fake about her; she was naturally brilliant and so humble.

Then, of course, she was utterly gutted when her beloved Carl passed over in 2025.

RIP, beautiful Dolly. X

merlotgran HA HA HA! Typical Dolly humour!

grumppa Wed 26-Aug-26 08:52:54

All the above, and as has been pointed out in the media she was a unifier of what has become a very divided America.

What is it about the mountains of Tennessee? Another unifier, Davy Crockett, was "born on a mountain top" there, and Dolly sang of her "Tennessee mountain home".

Athrawes Wed 26-Aug-26 09:43:33

A lovely lady who will be much missed

luluaugust Wed 26-Aug-26 09:45:39

RIP wonderful Dolly

mrsfeather Wed 26-Aug-26 10:01:05

A wonderful woman.

dragonfly46 Wed 26-Aug-26 10:07:07

My favourite quote 'it takes a lot of money to look this cheap'- she was anything but cheap but a genuinely kind person through and through.

nanaK54 Wed 26-Aug-26 11:09:56

The world is a sadder place today - RIP wonderful Dolly flowers

Gabrisha Wed 26-Aug-26 11:22:17

There's a really lovely documentary on iPlayer "Dolly Parton - Here I Am". It's Dolly in her own words.

AGAA4 Wed 26-Aug-26 11:36:46

So sad. She will be missed very much.
I saw her on the news this morning singing "Vaccine, vaccine vaccine" to the tune of Joleyn. She was urging people to get vaccinated during COVID.

Calendargirl Wed 26-Aug-26 13:19:13

Our aquacise session today included some of her songs, in tribute.
