Sad news.

Saw her at the O2 - she was just great.

A talented and generous lady.

A clip on the lunchtime BBC news showed the band of the changing of the guards at Buckingham palace today playing 9 to 5. A fine tribute.

I don't often cry when I hear of the death of a celebrity, but I did for Dolly Parton, My daughters both loved her, from a very early age.
She was a remarkable woman who did so much good for this world and brought so much joy with her music.

Dolly had a brief battle with cancer so i've read.
Rest in peace Dolly. A true legend.

Was so sad to hear this, I listen to her music often. She also appeals to all ages , my 17 year old grandaughter was just as upset as I was . RIP Dolly you were an icon !

Saw Dolly in Chicago when she was being filmed for 9-5. Some guy walked past and said, 'will you look at those cans on that bimbo'. She.loved it.

Was saddened to hear the news that Dolly had died. Had just been talking to my son about her the night before and saying how I would love to see her in concert.
She was a very smart lady who did so much for many charities. An absolute icon.

I'm full of admiration, and now sadness, for this marvellous big hearted lovely woman. She's earned her place in heaven.

Trump has issued a tribute to Dolly Parton and ordered flags to fly at half mast.

Predictably, Trump claims that Dolly Parton liked him. There is no evidence for this as Dolly always kept herself politically neutral and refused to be drawn on the subject. However, the Republicans under Trump defunded several of Dolly's initiatives including her literacy programme so it would be unlikely that she was a fan of Trump.

I don't think you had to be a Country Music fan to like some of Dolly's music.
Great talent and great sense of humour.
It's sad that she's gone but she was one of those artists/personalities of whom you only remember their great life-force and vibrancy.
I always smile when I think of Dolly and I think I always will.
RIP Dolly 🥹😊💐🎶😘

I have always for some reason assumed she was a republican. I liked that she didnt preach on any issue as far as I remember, she just did rather than lecture.

A light has gone out!

I was pondering tonight on whether anyone else has ever achieved so much apolitically. Was talking about her to my partner on the phone tonight and we both ended up in tears. Things that she did affected people individually but with no expectation of any reward or adulation. I think the best description of her is that of being a humanitarian. If only other millionaires and billionaires used their money to do as much good as she has. I wonder if some of them might be contemplating the legacy that they will leave?

Dolly is who I strive to emulate in my life. It was very lovely to see the band at Buckingham playing.

RIP a great philanthropist.

I’ve seen on the news that her very last song that she wrote is locked away in some sort of chest and not to be opened for another 20 years…
RIP you actually are a legend….😢

Great entertainer. Talented songwriter. Heartfelt classic songs like Jolene and I will always love you.

And a very, decent and genuine person.

Thank You Dolly

An absolute icon. I don’t know anyone, friend or family, who didn’t love her. She has left such a legacy.

JenniferEccles Thu 27-Aug-26 11:59:43

An extraordinarily talented woman who achieved so much in her life despite her impoverished upbringing. “Dirt poor “ was her assessment of her childhood, yet she didn’t let that hold her back.

An inspiration to those who constantly blame difficulties in their early life for every problem they have as adults.

I have been struggling to remember a death where there were so many varied tributes. After seeing the band at Buckingham Palace playing a Dolly song, I was in the supermarket and there was 9-5 again. I also saw her featured on a Paris visitors’ You Tube channel, and a football forum I post on! I saw an interview on TikTok where she said she just wanted to be remembered as a ‘regular person’, but I’d say she was anything but a regular person!
