This just popped up on my FB, not sure why as I don’t follow this group.

I read that the Portsmouth protest was peaceful.

I wonder who or which publication reported the Portsmouth protest was peaceful with no mention of police injuries, car damage etc?

Gran22boys Sat 12-Sept-26 20:11:50

Depends what you read or who you believe I suppose. I’ve no idea of the truth. I wasn’t there.

I agree it does depend what you read and who you believe.

The police were there- lots of them, some injured, ambulances, and contractors were there waiting to drive the asylum seekers until after 3 am and all those have reported their factual experiences. The first arrested person has also already appeared in court and there is a factual court record of his offences.

Some people are happy to believe true, verifiable facts. Some people are not interested in true verifiable facts and prefer rumour and biased accounts I guess.

Why spoil a good story with facts.

Here’s the truth, or part of it at least, regarding the arrests made so far.

I live in East Kent, quite close to Dover.
Following last week's events, in which masked men surrounded the port, I was interested to read online how the gentlemen were greeted with cheers, clapping, food and drinks.
Statements were made with absolute confidence by posters .. in Nottingham, Stoke and Romford.
This was not my understanding at all.

I think one of the issue here is definitely social media and people sources of “news”.

I’d feel very uneasy about any group sporting this name. Something about it makes me cringe. Probably unreasonable of me.

Not unreasonable at all. I don’t like their name, their dress and their face covering.

I do completely support political protests.

Come, dressed in your everyday clothes, your face uncovered, your banners, your wives, stand loud and proud and be seen, but don’t vandalise, disrupt if you must, but just enough to make your point.

Everyone must be able and allowed to protest.

Lobby your MP, take a petition to number 10.

Don’t intimidate people.

And the word 'Patriot'.
If your funding comes from abroad, in which way is that patriotic?

You've read that the Portsmouth protest was peaceful on one or more unnamed sources. You've also had the opportunity to read on Gransnet factual detail of police injuries, damaged cars, the first arrest and court appearance of one of the protesters, police statement they hope more arrests to follow.

Always good to get the full picture 😊

Yet more thugs.

Yet more thugs.

In my opinion yes.

However, it again appears to be a great idea in theory, to care about the safety of British women and children.

However, dress it up however you choose, in my eyes they are “mobs”.

Also see my separate post are Pink Ladies.

I also read today separate groups, of men, not dressed in black or balaclavas, are now marching around towns to “provide safety for women, three groups are setting up in Essex as I write, according to a local newsfeed.

I neither want nor need groups of males, I don’t know and are never likely to know, marching around our towns to protect me!

I despair!

I think they might need them in Piddington

Maremia Tue 15-Sept-26 11:35:43

Might need who?
Masked men, some of whom are domestic abusers?

These brave balaclava-led patriots would be crying for their mothers if put on an RNLI boat in rough seas.

“Need who” and “why”?

There are no Asylum Seekers there (yet).

Why not lobby their MP, write to the department (assume Home Office) Ministers and seek reassurance.

I think it could work to place them into disused barracks.

I think security and processes and procedures require clarification and put in place.

However much anyone despises the AS arriving here, it’s simply the means by which they arrive which “might” be considered illegal.

We simply don’t know which of these arriving are criminals and who have a genuine case.

International Law states very clearly these people have a right to choose where they lodge their claim, and they have to be in said country of their choice to make their claim.

They don’t all come here, to the UK, to claim they do is simply a lie.

300,000+ people have been displaced due to wars, corrupt governments and famine.

Maritime Law prevents us intercepting the boats in the channel.

Like it or not, these are the laws.

Let’s try and resolve these issues, address people’s fears, try and see both sides of these stories, within our national law, not by vigilante groups, not by scaremongering our own vulnerable citizens and certainly not by violent protests injuring police and damaging public assets.
