‘Signs of violence’: asylum seekers arriving in France injured after being deported from UK. Do Asylum seekers deserve to be kept safe from harm and injury on arrival in the UK?

Is the UK in danger of losing empathy for those seeking asylum whilst their claims are being processed? French health service documents injuries including fractures and bruising after detention and return under ‘one in one out’ scheme
.
The pilot scheme involves one asylum seeker who crosses the Channel in a small boat being returned to France in return for another in northern France being legally brought to the UK to claim asylum. The scheme is due to end on 1 October.
Samusocial de Paris (SSP) has been commissioned by Île-de-France’s regional health agency to provide healthcare for asylum seekers returned to France in the first eight days after their deportation from the UK, when they are accommodated in a shelter in Paris.

They have documented the cases of 90 returnees between 22 January and 7 June 2026. All are young men, mostly in their 20s and early-30s, who sought sanctuary in the UK after fleeing a variety of conflict zones including Eritrea, Sudan and Afghanistan. About 1,400 people have been forcibly removed to France by the Home Office since the scheme began in August 2025.

The evidence compiled by SSP has been submitted to the French Assembly’s cross-party inquiry into the impact of the Anglo-French border deals known as Le Touquet agreements. This evidence comes from their own clinical consultations with returnees and some hospital reports from those sent to A&E.

According to the report: “Consultations are revealing signs consistent with recent physical and psychological violence as well as the consequences of prolonged detention in conditions described as particularly degrading.” It states that the physical and psychological conditions documented are “explicitly linked to the implementation of the France-British agreement”.
The report adds: “The frequency and recurrence of the incidents reported by people transferred under the Franco-British agreement appear particularly worrying.”

SSP recommends that a mechanism should be established to collect information on allegations of mistreatment by the British authorities that can be sent to the UK. It also suggests reporting this issue to the French prosecutor under article 40 of the French code of criminal procedure.

Nihal Osman, a programme coordinator for Médecins Sans Frontières, which also provides health support for this group of returnees, said: “This one in one out agreement is a machine for psychological destruction. The deeply concerning physical injuries sustained whilst in detention in the United Kingdom, which we have documented among those deported, must be viewed in the light of a serious psychological deterioration.”

The UK Home Office and the company Mitie, which provides the guards for the asylum seekers, have been approached for comment.

If you brutalise and starve an already traumatised person, you are going to get problems.

Who’s brutalised and starved?

Oreo Sat 19-Sept-26 08:14:53

As far as I can see we look after asylum seekers very well here.

greyfur16 Sat 19-Sept-26 08:49:20

It's pointless mentioning my own direct experience.Never mind.

All warm & cosy with their thick padded coats, fancy head phones.
I don’t see any signs of starving folk.
I think I’ve seen more elderly in states of neglect, or Our own homelessness- its a disgrace.

*The Lefty Wokes will always sanctify these people because it makes them seem, feel and look moraly superior*

And you know this because?

Because we have seen plenty of the left campaigns on ‘ all migrants welcome’ brigade.
You are all come across as caring people, until you are all asked will you take one of these people in? Same answer NO! Loads of excuses why you can’t- quite amusing.

Betony Sat 19-Sept-26 10:24:38

'Betony surely you are not saying, "oh, they are all like that? '

Of course I'm not saying that Wyllow3. This is just my own/my friends' personal experience. I don't know what the answer is any more than anyone else. I was just thinking: the reported asylum seekers' injuries could result from them fighting each other.
I agree these guys should be allowed to work at something useful. These particular young men seem to spend a lot of the time just sitting on the garden wall talking and smoking and on their phones.

Yes, Oreo, so far we are legal, and so it should be, but some of the policies suggested by Reform and their followers are not.

Preventing the RNLI to operate, masked men, of fighting age, some of whom are criminals, invading areas where there are proposed immigration facilities should be illegal.
Doxxing volunteers is about to become illegal.

We don't in every case. There have been detention officers sacked and convicted for abuse and for example Registered Nurses struck off the Register due to their care failures.

The evidence compiled by SSP has been submitted to the French Assembly’s cross-party inquiry into the impact of the Anglo-French border deals known as Le Touquet agreements. This evidence comes from their own clinical consultations with returnees and some hospital reports from those sent to A&E.

The SSP evidence report as outlined;ined in OP: “Consultations are revealing signs consistent with recent physical and psychological violence as well as the consequences of prolonged detention in conditions described as particularly degrading etc.

Oreo Sat 19-Sept-26 13:18:57

….and of course no French detention officer or police or similar would never behave in that way ( yeah right)
There are always some bad apples in any institution but generally speaking I believe that asylum seekers are well looked after in the UK.They would have stopped arriving long ago if that wasn’t the case.

Maremia Sat 19-Sept-26 16:51:18

Only if the treatment meeted out to them was worse that the cause of their flight from home.
Some of them have come from appalling persecution.

LemonJam Sat 19-Sept-26 17:59:09

If the SSP similarly identifies any recent physical and psychological violence as well as the consequences of prolonged detention in conditions described as particularly degrading etc in France it no doubt would similarly report and conditions should be corrected. The fact remains we do not always treat ASs very well in the UK.

Well said Cruiselover
There are none so blind as those who will not see..
How many hundreds are coming into the country and just disappearing?
And I think they will be coming in in much small boats all along that coastline may be half a dozen at a time and they too will disappear but no, it’s nothing to worry about. Nothing to see here.
Unfortunately, you will eat your words in the fullness of time

And here we are…

Casdon Mon 21-Sept-26 15:52:00

Can you post your source please Shinamae?

Just to add fuel to the fire.......🔥

Huge numbers of migrants are feared to have won the right to come to Britain due to a legal blunder. A judge has raised concerns that a large number of immigration appeals heard in the UK courts may have been illegitimate.

If you doubt the source then you are welcome to prove it's not true, otherwise we can assume it probably is.

Maremia Mon 21-Sept-26 16:30:02

Not the fault of the asylum seekers, is it?

Better still, let’s wait for verification or amendment from a reliable source. Is it just me who can’t take Chris Philp seriously when he blames the current government for the errors that took place under the last, which he was part of? I’d think much more of him if he said, sorry this happened and we didn’t know, but it should now be put right immediately.

Gran22boys Mon 21-Sept-26 17:45:30

Everyone knows it’s an invasion.

Maremia Mon 21-Sept-26 21:04:57

Yes, so worrying for those villagers, to be invaded by masked men of fighting age, some of whom are known to have criminal convictions.

Certainly, it was GB News….
But here is something from the sainted BBC….

greyfur16 Tue 22-Sept-26 13:51:09

So is it 5 people or an invasion please?

Casdon Tue 22-Sept-26 14:14:57

It was a domestic size dinghy, which was not seen on radar as I read it earlier. This is one example why the people who say all boats must be stopped are unrealistic. Unless there is a line of people stretching along the whole coastline of the UK, it is impossible to guarantee that small boats of this size will not arrive (at great risk to the passengers, obviously, who would want to cross the channel in a dinghy that size?). We don’t find out how many drown in passage.

Chestnut Tue 22-Sept-26 14:25:27

Ed Davey said on Laura Kuenssberg last Sunday he supported the new EU Migration Pact which only came in this June. He also said that migrants arriving on our shores would be returned. I thought that was Reform's manta. So now the Lib Dems want to do this as well? Must be getting desperate.

sundowngirl Tue 22-Sept-26 15:33:46

Not desperate, realistic.
