No surprise that their symbolic referendum returned a vote to leave the UK. It won't make one jot of difference but it doesn't hurt to let AB know how strongly some people feel about the imminent arrival of 1,500 migrants on the doorstep of a village with 350 inhabitants.
AB has said there needs to be fairness in where these migrants are housed and says the boat arrivals are at a 7 year low. Boy, is he missing the point. Reduced boat arrivals or not, what many people are appalled at is the length of time it takes to vet those already here and the areas chosen for them to live while they wait are often inappropriate.
I really feel for the Piddington residents, especially women and young girls.

I don't blame the RNLI in Portsmouth. Why risk your life to save others only to be abused. It's appalling.

Peacelillydily, may I very politely suggest you ask Google?
For example
'Which crimes have some men in Patriot Platform been found guilty of?
Offences include dangerous driving,
wounding and assault,
common assault,
assaulting a Police Officer,
violent disorder,
Will this do for starters?

I'm not looking I don't believe there has been any convictions, its posters on here who have said they have and seeing some are always quoting facts I thought they would be able to produce actual evidence, obviously they can't because there isn't any I don't think but I'm ok to be proven wrong but don't lose any sleep over it.

Couldn't you find any? I'm on Facebook, X and on Borrowbox where I can view all newspapers also AI and news programmes.

Look, frankly is impossible trying to have a conversation with you frankly, I don’t use any of those media you mention for my news updates.

However I have access to the BBC, Sky News and Google.

16 September : Del Somerville, 42, pleaded guilty at Portsmouth Crown Court to violent disorder after the overnight protest at Eastney Marina on 6 September.

He was the first person to be arrested over the disorder, which saw hundreds of protesters gather after a boat carrying about 120 migrants was brought ashore at nearby Eastney Beach.

Somerville, from Paulsgrove, is due to be sentenced on 24 September.

My guess - this will be classed as B2 for sentencing as it involved an attack on police officers. The starting point is two years custody. He could get 1-3 years.

Why don’t you give YouTube a go Cossy, (don’t know about the other platforms) might open your eyes!
Not all AI.
I am just watching something on Ceuta migrants., Someone is asking some Spanish citizens if they will take in a migrant, course comes the reply!
Well here’s Sam from Nigeria, he’s looking for a home.
Now comes the BS excuses (theirs is that they are on holiday),
Another, he’s already in an HMO.
Unbelievable the excuses folk come out with.

Sorry, I think I may have misled, I have been on YouTube, to get help for things I cannot do mainly, you know when you struggle with something practical and then someone in the know shows someone like me, how to do what I need to do, in very easy steps. I’ve never “followed” or “subscribed” to anyone on it, except my son when he was in his teens haha!

I’m not adverse to it, it’s just not my chosen channel for news.

Cossy Sat 19-Sept-26 20:20:38

The reason I wouldn’t want to watch something like you’ve just suggested is because it feels somehow “contrived” - bit like all these “reality” shows which are rehearsed and highly edited. They’re not real at all.

That’s how I feel about using Tik-Tok, for anything other than entertainment.

MT62 What might YouTube actually open my eyes to??

The fact that many people in many different countries don’t welcome Asylum Seekers? That some countries don’t welcome migrants?

I don’t need YouTube for that, I can just pop on here grin

I have friends who live in the South of France, Spain and Turkey, all whom I’ve visited many times. I know the feelings that they have about those moving through or visiting or moving permanently to their countries. You’ll never guess? Some don’t welcome Brits!

I am not surprised they don’t welcome some brits, staggering up & down drunk.
You can’t blame them.

I watch anything & everything on YouTube- like to try & get a balanced view.
It’s a tough time for everyone over in Ceuta at the moment.
Even those that landed on the beach believe it, or not.

I don’t do TikTok, X, FB or anything else apart from on here.

Just off to watch ‘Two Germans in Britain’. They are staying in a lovely cottage around the area where the Hovis advert was filmed in the 80s.

Perhaps you might like to re-think your philosophy.

Some of us check facts before we post.

I often make mistakes, quite happy to own that, we are all human, after all. We are all flawed. thanks

Peacelilydilly Sun 20-Sept-26 07:24:26

Actually he wasn't a patriot platform member and no where does it say he was, he was just an ordinary protestor as far as I can see. So no convictions for patriot platform.

Peacelilydilly Sun 20-Sept-26 07:25:45

I'm happy to be proved wrong.

Back to what is happening in Oxfordshire and the country as a whole.

For those interested in statistics and facts about asylum seekers, especially as they compare the UK to the rest of Europe, here’s the latest and very comprehensive House of Commons Library paper published this month.

researchbriefings.files.parliament.uk/documents/SN01403/SN01403.pdf

To give context to the row over MOD Bicester, it’s worth looking at the supplementary chart, in Excel spreadsheet form, about asylum seeker accommodation. Link on page 28 of the paper.

The paper gives a regional overview but the spreadsheet has a lot more detail. You can look up your own area and see how many asylum seekers are accommodated per 10,000 of population and what percentage of the total population are housed.

There’s initial accommodation (hotels and military bases), dispersal accommodation (houses, flats, HMOs) and contingency accommodation (hotels usually, where there is limited availability of initial and dispersal accommodation).

Oxfordshire currently accommodates a remarkably low number of asylum seekers. The Cherwell district which covers Banbury, Bicester (including Piddington) and Kidlington accommodates just 6 asylum seekers per 10,000 of population. The population is 170,426.

Top three places are Glasgow which accommodates 60 people per 10,000 of population, Hyndburn (east of Blackburn) 49 per 10,000 and Braintree 48 per 10,000 (which has RAF Wethersfield).

In 2025, there were around 15 asylum applicants for every 10,000 people resident in the UK. Across the 27 EU member states, there were 18 asylum applications for every 10,000 people.

The number of arrivals this year is substantially down compared to 2025, as the graphic shows.

Oh good grief. He wouldn’t even have know about the protest or been there if he wasn’t following the group.

It’s pretty obvious to almost everyone that, whilst he’s not paid his subs, he was there to support the group.

But if it makes you feel good, goodness only knows why? See below.

*No high-ranking organizers or official leaders of Patriot Platform, including its founder Daniel Thomas ("Danny Tommo"), have been arrested or charged in connection with the Portsmouth or Dover incidents.

However, multiple individuals who responded to the group’s direct mobilization and participated in the Eastney Marina disorder have been arrested and charged:

Daniel Thomas (Leader):

While Thomas organized and live-streamed the Portsmouth protest—and was widely mocked online for wading into the sea shouting warnings at emergency workers—he has not been arrested.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood explicitly stated that Thomas and his organization will face "the full force of the law" if they commit crimes, but legal action so far has targeted the individual rioters rather than the leadership.

The Portsmouth Arrests & Charges: Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have treated the active rioters as localized criminal offenders.

Following the 6 September 2026 incident, several participants have faced the courts:
Del Leon Somerville (42) and Justin Dixon (50) both pleaded guilty to violent disorder.

Bradley Pinnock (22) was charged with violent disorder.

A 16-year-old boy was also arrested on suspicion of violent disorder linked to the same Eastney Marina incident.

Leadership Distancing

In an apparent bid to protect the central organization from direct legal liability, Daniel Thomas issued an official statement via social media ahead of subsequent demonstrations in Portsmouth.

He explicitly announced that "no organiser, representative, or affiliate of Patriot Platform" would attend or take part in further events, leaving local crowds to face the newly implemented police crackdowns on face coverings and public obstruction alone. source BBC*

He wasn't wearing the Patriot Platform uniform so it was untrue. I'm sick of the left calling people who don't agree with them far right thugs that's why I called this out.

Those who got arrested and charged and were only there because of the Patriots Platform call for folks to attend, clearly are “far right thugs”, or do you support their action too?

Plevey08 Sun 20-Sept-26 16:00:33

I have read in the Sunday Times. It being rather ironic that the plan may be delayed indefinitely by the discovery of protected great-crested nests, badgers and bats on the site. Quintessentially British.

Plevey08 Sun 20-Sept-26 16:01:07

Newts not nests

Allsorts Sun 20-Sept-26 16:04:15

I say listen to the concerns of the people of Piddington, it not fair whats been expected of them.

Plevey08 Sun 20-Sept-26 16:05:43

All hail the feisty folk of Paddington, population 358, with global coverage.

Plevey08 Sun 20-Sept-26 16:07:08

Typo again Piddington.

Maremia Sun 20-Sept-26 16:15:13

Don't care if they are far right thugs or far left thugs.
If the justice system finds them guilty of assault, then they are convicted thugs.
Good luck with calling out the justice system. 😃
