Absolutely, David. A cyber attack or cutting power lines is the greatest threat.

I think, though, with thoughts of hardship and lost loved ones, that Nanna was referring to a more traditional, troops on the ground and bombers in the sky scenario?
I think that extremely unlikely.

We, too, could cause cyber/infrastructure for Russia.

Breaking news just now in the Telegraph:

“ Vladimir Putin’s party has won a record number of seats in Russia’s carefully planned parliamentary election in which no parties critical of the president took part.

Preliminary results showed Putin’s United Russia party won 355 seats in the 450-seat Duma lower house of parliament, Ella Pamfilova, the electoral chief, announced on Monday – a supermajority larger than the party’s previous record of 343 seats.

The election result is expected to further tighten Putin’s grip on power.

Some fear a new military mobilisation in Russia, something the president has denied, while Kyiv accuses Moscow of planning a call-up in coming weeks.”

What is happening is that NATO expect there to be - within the next few months - attacks by Putin.

They reckon that he is testing whether Article 5 will be invoked or, as he seems to think it is all just talk.

I wouldn’t expect Trump to play ball, but every other member should be ready to resist and aid the country being attacked.

Putin is in no financial position to wage war on the wider world. His great ally, Iran, has been diminished. He’s feeling increasingly cornered and behaving rashly as a consequence, that is all. A few incursions by drone over neighbouring NATO borders does not a world war make.
The “West” would do well to provide greater support to Ukraine and put an end to Putin’s power for once and for all.

If ever there were a time for the exhausted, bereaved, suppressed people of Russia to back an opposition leader, it’s now.

That is a very optimistic view most thought Putin could not sustain the Ukraine war yet here we are 4 yrs on with Russia on a war production footing .

Be under no illusion that Putin could easily cause havoc with our infrastructure without declaring war, the UK and NATO are far behind Russia in weapons production. We certainly can't defend ourselves against the sort of attacks that Ukraine is suffering, the US has its own problems so can't help much
