“Tommo” has been arrested for the slashing of the dinghy, he appeared in court today and denied bail.

A Syrian migrant appeared in court accused of raping a 15 year old schoolgirl and sexually assaulting another teenager.

He has been bailed until his hearing on 1 August 2028!

We could argue all day long as to wether Tommo should have done what he did, the point is he going to spend his first night in prison when a potential paedophile and rapist is not behind bars and could disappear in the 22 months before his trial.

This is why so many people are so angry, it Lucy Connolly all over again.

I thought the child pornographer had pleaded guilty?

If I'm not mistaken, both cases were reported on the 6.00 news last night, which may be why people are comparing them, as otherwise there is no reason to do so, other than that one criminal is white and the other of colour, so it feeds the 'two-tier' cliche that many seem to have bought into.

I agree that the pornographer should have been remanded in custody if he pleaded guilty, as a custodial sentence would be mandatory. But that doesn't mean that 'Tommo' should go free - the cases are unrelated and one hasn't been prioritised over the other.

I’ve looked this up, if it’s the same case, it’s sexual assault and rape against two girls and he’s pleading not guilty hence continued bail, with conditions, until his court case is held in August 2028, that timescale is appalling! I get the courts are way way behind. What’s causing it?

I found this, re his bail, I think we probably know why things are now kept “under wraps” until the court cases and verdicts.

“The specific details of Ahmad Hania’s bail conditions have not been publicly disclosed by Warwickshire Police or the UK courts.
When Judge Tom Rochford extended Hania's bail at Warwick Crown Court, media reports simply noted that he was released to "continue bail on the same conditions as before." Public disclosure of the exact terms—such as specific curfews, travel restrictions, or exclusion zones—has been withheld, which is standard legal practice in the UK to avoid compromising the ongoing trial or inadvertently identifying the teenage victims.”

Maremia

Wasn't Thomas already on bail for a previous offence?
Did he fail to give an address?

He said he was of no fixed abode.

Chocolatelovinggran Sat 26-Sept-26 15:49:35

I understand that Mr Thomas declared that he was homeless. People are bailed, usually, to their home.

LemonJam Sat 26-Sept-26 16:40:25

It's not unusual at all for rape cases across the UK to take 2 years due to a massive backlog in crown Court system and a shortage of legal professionals for rape cases.

All accused are innocent until proven guilty as others have said. Tommo posted his actions on line and video footage available to the court- many might say strong evidence of his criminal actions despite his not guilty plea.

Graphite posted link re grounds re necessity for remand to prison. It is for the prosecution in each of these 2 cases to make their case for prison remand necessity to the judge. Does anyone know the prosecution case for necessity detail for each of these 2 cases as not included in DM article in OP?

Factors the Court must consider when deciding whether to remand a person alleged of criminal activity to prison or grant bail (conditional or unconditional):
1) Nature and Seriousness of the Offence: Rape is an extremely serious indictable-only charge, which heavily influences the perception of risk regarding the administration of justice.
2) The Defendant's Record: Previous convictions, record of failing to answer bail, and background character.
3) Strength of the Evidence: The quality and nature of the evidence available in the case.
4) Bail Conditions: If concerns exist, courts frequently impose stringent conditional bail (such as electronic tagging, curfews, or exclusion zones) rather than immediate custodial remand, unless the risk of interference or absconding is too high.

Tommo’s previous criminal record and prison detention is publicly known, his background character, plus there is clear, arguably strong visual evidence of his actions alleged to be criminal. He will only need to be remanded for several days, not 2 years. I do not know the detail of the alleged rapist’s previous record, his character, any detail of any previous convictions etc. Neither am I aware of the strength of evidence available in that case, i.e. whther strong or weak. Others might?

I also do not know where the alleged rapist is located for the duration of the time until his trial under his bail conditions? Is he currently in a secure location already, like an immigration centre?

The back drop to tall of this also of is that prisons are overflowing, near to 100% current capacity and the context of the controversial early release scheme. Tommo’s trial date is next week I understand so very short period on remand- only involves three days of early release to balance out. The other trial date in nearly 2 years away so requires equivalent of same period of early release time. For every person put on remand prison space needs to be found and prisoners currently requiring to be released early. I am unaware of the specific current circumstances of prison space availability in Warwickshire?

On the face of it the comparison between Tommo and the alleged rapist seems irrational until all the necessary factors are taken into consideration. They are not comparable cases. I do not know all the facts of the cases so can’t decide with certainty either way. On the hand I also don’t know of any facts or evidence to believe the Syrian alleged rapist, waiting 2 years for trial, is being treated any differently to any other alleged rapist in the UK in similar circumstances as in his case.

Whether posters believe foreign born nationals accused of rape should be treated any differently than UK born alleged rapists is another matter entirely…….

The alleged rapist could have been bailed to a specific, considered secure location but not made public due to anti immigrant feelings and fear of public reprisals?

LemonJam Sat 26-Sept-26 16:43:36

not three days on remand- several...

JenniRen Sat 26-Sept-26 16:45:18

As I pointed out earlier, he must abide somewhere, even if only occasionally, as his partner is expecting their fifth child.

His defence team stated that he lives with his partner and children but that their address should not be disclosed (fair enough for their sakes).
However, that does not mean he has no fixed abode.

Casdon Sat 26-Sept-26 17:18:12

I would be cursing him right now if I was his pregnant partner with four, presumably young, children already. That’s a lot for any woman to cope with.

Yes, I tried to look it up in several ways. All I got was that the bail conditions were the same as previously and were not being published, nor were any other details, reasons, preventing “trouble” at the location and protecting both girls identities.

He accused of sexually assaulting them both and raping one, I believe the girls are 14 & 15 and this allegedly happened inside a hotel room.

He is denying all charges.

So comparing cases Charges Tommo has pleaded guilty to

Attempted Kidnapping 2016 Thomas pleaded guilty to attempting to kidnap a man at knifepoint after breaking into his home with two other individuals. He served two years in prison for this offence.
Entering a Restricted Harbour Area August 2026 At Margate Magistrates' Court, he pleaded guilty to unlawfully entering a restricted area at Western Jet Foil, a short-term holding facility for arriving asylum seekers in Dover.

Active accusations & Not Guilty Pleas

English Channel Boat Slashing September 2026 Thomas was arrested and charged with criminal damage after live-streaming himself using a knife to slash an adrift small boat in the English Channel while an emergency responder was on board. He pleaded not guilty at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court and was denied bail.
Withholding Phone PIN September 2026 He pleaded not guilty to failing to disclose his mobile phone PIN to police under Section 53 of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000. Police will need time to download without pin and would need to hand phone back if Tommo released on bail so investigation opportunity lost
Dover Public Order Violations August 2026 He pleaded not guilty to five other charges stemming from his filming of asylum seekers at Dover. These include using racially abusive language, using threatening or abusive words to cause distress, and trespassing on the Dover Western Docks to shout at arriving vessels. He is also currently awaiting trial for these offences.

In all these circumstances do posters accept there are reasonable grounds to hold Tommo on remand in prison for several days, not least so the police have time to investigate mobile phone evidence (as Tommo refused to provide PIN so police could do this in a timely way) until his case becomes before the court next week?

Daniel Thomas.

Honestly, I’ve heard it all!

“ Christian faith has become part of Thomas's public persona.

He was photographed at St Lawrence Church, Morden in February and March 2026, and has said: "I have repented my sins and, under Jesus Christ, I am a new man".

The BBC described Thomas's public Christianity as potentially "a way of painting the UK as a Christian country, and Muslim immigrants as outsiders".”

LemonJam Sat 26-Sept-26 17:29:22

We are invited to compared Tommo's case to and an inference there is anger Tommo was remanded to prison for several days but not Ahmad Hania remanded to prison for nearly 2 years whilst awaiting trial. AH is a 27-year-old Syrian national who pleaded not guilty to six counts of sexual assault, including the rape of a 15-year-old girl.

The Case and Plea
Hania appeared at Warwick Crown Court on September 24, 2026, where he formally entered his pleas.
The Charges The allegations stem from an incident in August 2026 at a hotel in Kenilworth, Warwickshire. Police responded to reports that two teenage girls had been sexually assaulted. Hania is accused of kissing and sexually touching both victims without consent, as well as raping one of the girls.
The Trial Because he maintains his innocence, he will face a five-day trial scheduled to begin on August 1, 2028.

Bail and Current Circumstances
Following his plea hearing, Judge Tom Rochford extended Hania's bail under the same pre-existing conditions (not made public). He has been ordered to attend all scheduled preliminary hearings leading up to the 2028 trial date.

Do posters believe that every male arrested on allegations of kissing and sexually touching 2 teenage girls without consent, as well as raping one of the girls- should be remanded to prison for 2 years until case comes to trial? Remanding alleged rapists to prison for 2 years until the case comes to trial doesn’t happen automatically in the UK at the moment.

If you believe the answer is yes- that really has nothing to do with Tommo’s case- or the fact that this alleged rapist is Syrian.

AI does tell me he lives with this woman, the mother of his 4, soon to be found, children, he’s also only 37 (I think).

Quite rightly, partner not named nor the area in which they all live.

He’s very adamant that these should all remain very private, yet he appears quite happy to dox others, if it fits his agenda and narrative.

Perhaps someone should sit little Tommo down with all the Bazzas, Gazzas, Wazzas (and all the other daft names grown men call one another) for a test on scripture relating to caring for strangers.

Fake Christianity. Just a way to grift money from MAGA types in the USA - which is exactly what he is doing

You don’t need AI. In court, his London barrister (paid for by whom?) said:

I invite this court to bear in mind it’s dealing with a 37-year-old man who lives with his long-standing partner and their four children, all aged between 18 and three, his partner is pregnant once again, four months. She is a full-time mother, he is the full-time provider, or breadwinner, as they used to say. He is a professional roofer by trade.

I wonder when Thomas last did a day of hard graft on someone's roof to win bread?

Completely accept that Primrose, it’s more accurate, in the main, it would seem, than X, YouTube, FB and Tik-Tok, where some are very happy to get their intel.

It mirrors what’s on Wikipedia, which I also accept is often inaccurate.

On this occasion, as what is gave me wasn’t in the least bit controversial or unusual, I’m quite happy to accept it’s pretty much true.

“He lives with his partner, who hasn’t been named, somewhere, which hasn’t be named, with four children and one on the way” Is the info both Wiki and AI have given me.

Cossy Sat 26-Sept-26 18:04:21

Btw the way, I’d argue AI is “often” incorrect, but that’s another whole different thread!

Plevey08 Sat 26-Sept-26 18:14:22

God help us! 4 more little Tommo's and Thomasina's.
I do hope they rebel against him as they mature.
Or better still his partner chooses to remove herself from his racist thuggery and protect her children.
There is that opportunity when he's locked away.

I wouldn't say A1 is often incorrect and in this case entirely accurate- and also as reported in many newspapers including The Telegraph, plus as circulated by the court:

Simon Pentol KC, defending, said: “This defendant is not charged with an offence of political activism, whether you agree with it or not, that is not the issue. He has elected crown court trial over criminal damage simplicita and nothing more and for not acquiescing to a notice requiring him to provide a Pin number.”

Pentol continued: “I invite this court to bear in mind it’s dealing with a 37-year-old man who lives with his long-standing partner and their four children, all aged between 18 and three, his partner is pregnant once again, four months. She is a full-time mother, he is the full time provider or bread-winner as they used to say. He is a professional roofer by trade, he is therefore having to look after his family who, through his political activism, have been under huge threat and due to publication of his mother’s home address, she has had to move home.”

It is Tommo that specifically sought to have a Crown Court trial. He therefore had to wait until 29th September till court space- his choice. His KC (I wonder who’s funding his expensive costs?) also told the court: “I am satisfied there is a real possibility of an immediate custodial sentence in this case.”

A dozen journalists were in the courtroom for the hearing, while a police officer stood in the public gallery. So even his expensive barrister, fully aware of all the facts, case evidence and the law understands the real possibility of a custodial sentence and no doubt the necessity for remand in prison until requested crown court trial. Unlike the DM.

LemonJam Sat 26-Sept-26 18:42:26

Even Tommo's KC believes Tommo is likely heading to a custodial prison sentence....
