So says Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Emma Reynolds. Well that was news to my husband, before retirement he was an employer and he certainly worked, at times long hours.

I see on Googling her, at one time she set up her own business lobbying. Lobbyists great hmm so maybe she's drawing on her experience.

Well critics of the current cabinet tend to say there isn't anyone in it who understands business and possibly Emma Reynolds confirms that. Any thoughts, especially if you happen to be, or were an employer, did you lie back and rest on your laurels or maybe just stirred your stumps occasionally. Eye roll emoji required.

I contemplated started a thread in this very subject yesterday.

DH and I are still employers, and have been for over 40 years.

This statement made my blood boil to be honest. It brought back all the times I have had to drive around the country, at all hours with a child or two in the back of the car asleep when an employee has called in sick.

All the times we have worked excessive hours to the detriment of family life, juggling childcare, school runs etc.. Paying employees before ourselves when the cash flow was overly tight

I could go on, but it’s not good for my blood pressure…

Yes pretty much my husband's reaction GG he's jut been listening to the Black Belt Barrister discussing it. What planet is she on ? Shockingly Clueless about how small businesses operate. Chief Secretary to the Treasury as well shock

My friend's DH employs several people and works long hours himself even though he is over retirement age.
To say employers don't work is complete nonsense

Careless talk, I think. If she was meaning to distinguish between paid employees and their employers she's not exactly chosen her words well.

I have every sympathy with your objections.

Of course employers are working people.

Tax on rents and interest is income tax.

Tax on rents and interest is charged under ITTOIA05 which stands for the Income Tax (Trading and Other Income) Act 2005.

The clue to whether it is income tax or not is right there in the name of the Act.

Gosh I worked in my business 24/7.- well it seemed like it!
It was never out of my thoughts!
I also remember my father wondering why I didn’t have a new car every year. Isn’t that what business owners did?
