I think it is wonderful

Dee1012 Wed 12-May-21 13:36:49

And actually long overdue in my opinion.
Several members of my family owe their lives to NHS staff including myself....
I'm so pleased all the services are there.

Apparently they are miles behind with money that is needed.

NotSpaghetti Wed 12-May-21 13:52:38

£179,505 raised so far.
They need £3.2million

I’m rather disappointed that it will be in London. More people would probably see it if it was at the National Memorial Arboretum. It would be a very fitting place for it.

BlueBelle Wed 12-May-21 14:53:07

What statue do you have a link ?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 12-May-21 14:57:01

Oh no it is on the news though and only the clay model ready for casting.

But I found it incredibly moving. The eyes are so good and the demeanour i thinks absolutely reflects someone at the end of a long hard emotional shift.

All to do it again the following day as the sculptor said

The National Memorial Arboretum is a very moving place to visit.

Greyduster Wed 12-May-21 16:25:47

Near Burton on Trent. Everyone should go there at least once.

Anniebach Wed 12-May-21 16:28:52

Definitely the National Memorial Arboretum

monk08 Wed 12-May-21 17:04:29

Yes definitely should be the National Memorial Arboretum well worth a visit have been 3 times now, and each time found something new to move me. Have promised to take my brother when he next visits

Lillie Wed 12-May-21 17:25:10

And one for the scientists in Oxford perhaps???

NotSpaghetti Fri 14-May-21 11:16:52

Lichfield Trent Valley is the nearest station to the National Memorial Arboretum I think.
It has cheaper trains to London than Burton. Also easy and cheap from the NW on the Crewe to London line.

It's a shame that there is money for a statue and not a decent pay rise!

Shortlegs Fri 14-May-21 11:29:36

There should also be statues to recognise farmers, lorry drivers, supermarket workers etc etc

Theoddbird Fri 14-May-21 11:32:22

There are plans for several I think. Oh and for those complaining that it is a long time coming obviously have know idea how long such a thing takes to make. Having sculpted for many years I can tell you that it is a very long process ...

Aepgirl Fri 14-May-21 11:35:52

Over 3million for this sculpture at a time when the economy is being overwhelmed with furlough, the price of vaccines (free to all of us), and high streets in decline. Let’s get everything back on track again before money of this amount is given. The sculpture can wait.

From what I have seen so far, it will be stunning.
Maybe they should have a memorial somewhere too for all those that kept the country running - retail staff, teachers, postmen and women (sorry, post people doesn't sound right!), refuse staff , cleaners etc some of which carried on doing their jobs throughout, some of which lost their lives, many being paid minimum wages.

How flaming typical that something like this just 'HAS' to be situated in London!

London is NOT all that easy - OR affordable - for many of us to get to!

Each Region should be able to have their own version of this.

Bring on Local Devolution!

Confused. What has a walker with a dog to do with the NHS. Someone please enlighten me!

GrandmaKT Fri 14-May-21 12:56:28

It's a search and rescue dog.
