The Princes in the Tower were Edward Vth and his younger brother Richard of Shrewsbury. They were of course declared illegitimate by their paternal uncle, who might really have believed this bearing in mind Edward 1Vth's previous betrothal before his marriage to Elizabeth Woodville. Henry V11th re-ligitimised these children by rather devious means in order to marry their sister. No wonder he got so worried about Perkins Warbeck!!
Prince John had severe epilepsy and was probably on the autism spectrum, but wasn't badly treated, Jalima. In fact it seems that he got more affection from his parents than his siblings did. He was well cared for on the Sandringham Estate and actually not really hidden away - he appeared in official family photos and there are stories of the rather embarrassing things he said to visiting dignatories. It would be a nice tribute to him if the name could be revived.
It would be a nice tribute to the poor little boy if the baby is called John. It wasn't his fault he was ill and it would be daft to think the name brings bad luck.
William was named after William of Gloucester who died piloting his plane in an air race. You don't get much unluckier than that.
The most recent Prince John was the child with epilepsy Maggiemaybe and hidden away on the Sandringham Estate; in those days would have been thought of as something shameful I presume , although it appears that he had a happy life.
absent, I have a small bet on John, at 100 to 1. It was out there with Wayne when I put the bet on, and when I mentioned it on other threads the feedback has been that it won't ever be revived, because of the bad record of the only King John we've had. Of course every King George, William, Charles and James has been beyond reproach! You can still get 50 to 1 if you're quick.
Our St George's day baby is Frederick Edward. I think the royal family will stick to traditional names, I guessed the names of George and Charlotte before it was announced but really don't know this time. Unlikely that he will be king so probably not that important.
It's up to the Queen to give her approval hence the delay is not theirs. Can't imagine her not approving any name they put forward so maybe we will know today. My vote is something long with multiple names of Phillip William Albert Charles and they end up calling him ...little bean or Allie, Wills...
