Any ideas on our new little Prince's name? I'm betting on Charles ... or maybe Phillip.

nigglynellie Sun 29-Apr-18 13:52:41

Perkin - grrr

nigglynellie Sun 29-Apr-18 13:51:50

The Princes in the Tower were Edward Vth and his younger brother Richard of Shrewsbury. They were of course declared illegitimate by their paternal uncle, who might really have believed this bearing in mind Edward 1Vth's previous betrothal before his marriage to Elizabeth Woodville. Henry V11th re-ligitimised these children by rather devious means in order to marry their sister. No wonder he got so worried about Perkins Warbeck!!

Louis Arthur Charles

The first name that sprung to mind for me was Alexander. Not too fuddy duddy but a bit royal sounding smile

Maggiemaybe Thu 26-Apr-18 00:07:02

Me too, tbh.

Jalima1108 Thu 26-Apr-18 00:03:21

Oh, ok, just felt a bit besieged
smile

I’m just discussing his situation, not attacking you. confused It was another poster who mentioned the name being considered unlucky.

Jalima1108 Wed 25-Apr-18 22:54:49

I didn't say he was badly treated.
I didn't say the name could bring bad luck.
I didn't say his parents did not care about him.

He was kept away from the public gaze
I just stated facts.

Maggiemaybe Wed 25-Apr-18 22:52:41

If we're thinking about unlucky royals, the princes in the Tower were Richard and Edward.

Maggiemaybe Wed 25-Apr-18 22:49:02

Prince John had severe epilepsy and was probably on the autism spectrum, but wasn't badly treated, Jalima. In fact it seems that he got more affection from his parents than his siblings did. He was well cared for on the Sandringham Estate and actually not really hidden away - he appeared in official family photos and there are stories of the rather embarrassing things he said to visiting dignatories. smile It would be a nice tribute to him if the name could be revived.

Edward Arthur Philip

Lilypops Wed 25-Apr-18 21:29:11

James Arthur William sounds princely,

varian Wed 25-Apr-18 21:21:12

Richard Michael William

Anniebach Wed 25-Apr-18 21:01:47

We will know tomorrow, think being Anzac Day today wouldn't have been appropriate to announce it

merlotgran Wed 25-Apr-18 20:35:21

It would be a nice tribute to the poor little boy if the baby is called John. It wasn't his fault he was ill and it would be daft to think the name brings bad luck.

William was named after William of Gloucester who died piloting his plane in an air race. You don't get much unluckier than that.

Jalima1108 Wed 25-Apr-18 20:16:08

The most recent Prince John was the child with epilepsy Maggiemaybe and hidden away on the Sandringham Estate; in those days would have been thought of as something shameful I presume sad, although it appears that he had a happy life.

annodomini Wed 25-Apr-18 10:16:02

Prince George already has Alexander as one of his middle names. The other is Louis - a tribute to the late Lord Mountbatten.

Maggiemaybe Wed 25-Apr-18 10:10:41

absent, I have a small bet on John, at 100 to 1. It was out there with Wayne when I put the bet on, and when I mentioned it on other threads the feedback has been that it won't ever be revived, because of the bad record of the only King John we've had. Of course every King George, William, Charles and James has been beyond reproach! wink You can still get 50 to 1 if you're quick. grin

harrigran Wed 25-Apr-18 09:04:05

Our St George's day baby is Frederick Edward.
I think the royal family will stick to traditional names, I guessed the names of George and Charlotte before it was announced but really don't know this time. Unlikely that he will be king so probably not that important.

NfkDumpling Wed 25-Apr-18 08:46:03

William - It was Shakespeare’s birthday too. Shortened to the Boy Billy.

gillybob Wed 25-Apr-18 08:38:25

Phillip shortened to little Pip !

Katek Wed 25-Apr-18 08:29:07

James Phillip Michael.

DanniRae Wed 25-Apr-18 08:15:46

I think: Jason...Wayne...Craig...Gavin...Kevin...Will definitely NOT be on their list!!

kittylester Wed 25-Apr-18 08:10:55

Our Charlotte is called Lottie not Charlie, iyswim!

NanaNancy Wed 25-Apr-18 06:23:12

It's up to the Queen to give her approval hence the delay is not theirs.
Can't imagine her not approving any name they put forward so maybe we will know today.
My vote is something long with multiple names of Phillip William Albert Charles and they end up calling him ...little bean or Allie, Wills...
