Prosecco

It’s everywhere - at parties, weddings, the obligatory tipple if you happen to be in a hot tub, the free gift, the pub quiz prize…
Am I the only person who doesn’t like Prosecco?! It’s just fizz! ?

jandrayson2 Fri 03-Jun-22 14:28:52

No we can't stand it either

Happysexagenarian Fri 03-Jun-22 14:32:13

I can't stand it! It's just fizzy tasteless plonk. But then I don't like any fizzy drinks except a good vintage champagne, and only half a glass please. We currently have 5 bottles of Prosecco that were gifts, we can't even give them away no-one wants it, it will end up down the drain.

Most prosecco is cheap party wine in my opinion. I prefer champagne from France or an English or Aussie alternative. Cava is not good for me - seems to set off my asthma.

I am in total agreement. Very clever marketing and packaging but too sweet for me.

SachaMac Fri 03-Jun-22 14:52:34

I don’t mind the occasional glass or a small glass alongside a Porn Star Martini but I much prefer Champagne for special occasions.
Ive had terrible stomach acid after drinking it in the past so I’m not at all surprised to hear it rots your teeth.

Not keen on any fizzy wine. I like white wines that are bone dry or red ones which are full bodied.

annab275 Fri 03-Jun-22 15:11:26

I don’t like Champagne or Prosecco. I do like red wine though

Brismum Fri 03-Jun-22 15:12:16

I don’t like it or champagne! Prefer a nice rosé! Not a big drinker anyway but like to be sociable. Just not with Prosecco!

Harmonypuss Fri 03-Jun-22 15:26:06

@wildswan16

I'm probably the only person in the country who has never even tasted Prosecco!

You're not, I've never had it and don't want it either.

I like Prosecco, but think it is going the same way as Lambrusco and Pinot Grigio; that is, it is due to be despised.

Ha - yes, you are probably right. Remember what happened to Chardonnay when there was a character on Footballers' Wives who had that as her name? Good old British snobbery!

Grandmadinosaur Fri 03-Jun-22 15:46:46

I prefer Cava to Prosecco. That’s if there isn’t any champagne!

62Granny Fri 03-Jun-22 16:01:04

Th reason it is always offered as a raffle prize is people who don't like it tend to give it away ? I am not a fan as other people have said it gives me a headache & upset tummy, I like a glass of champagne and I used to like A glass of Asti Spumante but you don't see that around these days.

glammagran Fri 03-Jun-22 16:06:51

I love fizz but not at all keen on Prosecco. Too sweet and a bit sickly for me. Cremant and Cava are much better but even better is champagne and my personal favourite, English Nyetimber.

Camelotclub Fri 03-Jun-22 16:11:51

No! It's fizzy white vinegar. But I don't drink alcohol any more anyway.

Mamie Fri 03-Jun-22 16:18:53

I find extra dry Prosecco a bit too sweet, but enjoy the brut. Prefer Cava though.

Susiewakie Fri 03-Jun-22 16:19:56

Horrible cheap tasting fizz prefer a nice g n t personally but everyone to their preferences

Prosecco is the fashionable generic womens drink there are much nice sparking wines available including English. Prosecco varies enormously from the simply awful to the really quite nice, many on Gransnet will remember Babycham being “the” drink, best of all Brandy and Babycham!.

Oh, Katie59, I remember Babycham and the glass with great fondness

redgran Fri 03-Jun-22 16:49:56

Yep!

Jens Fri 03-Jun-22 16:51:05

It's gross, very very sweet! Loath it

icanhandthemback Fri 03-Jun-22 17:07:30

I don't like it.

LOUISA1523 Fri 03-Jun-22 17:12:11

I don't like proscecco or champagne ....I don't even drink fizzy water

Ros18 Fri 03-Jun-22 17:20:21

Absolutely agree! Still drink Hennessy & Babycham!

Missingmoominmama Fri 03-Jun-22 17:42:05

Good Prosecco is nice (imo); cheap Prosecco isn’t very nice. Ditto Pinot Grigio; Gavi; Chardonnay… in fact, most wines that became popular because they were nice, then were made cheaply.

Nanna29 Fri 03-Jun-22 17:45:35

I dont like it either it tastes sour to me but when I got married 3 years ago I bought 2 magnum bottles of it and that tasted lovely cant remember where I got it from tho and havent been able to find it again

Cat4 Fri 03-Jun-22 18:21:48

I have never tried it.
