How can you be very unique? You are either unique or you are not, there is no degree of uniqueness. They are always saying it on the television, and it makes me so cross. I shout at the television. Another reason for shouting is when they say "a historic town, or a hotel", and use amount instead of number e.g. the amount of people at the meeting. Grrr. Think I am getting grumpier in my old age!

nanapug mu husband is often to be heard saying "Shouting at the telly again - they can't hear you, you know!" That makes me cross as well smile On television the other day, a Fire Officer announced that "No persons were hurt in the fire and two persons 'ave been happrehended in connection with the blaze"angry

I think he meant that no-one was hurt and 2 people had been arrested grin

....and why do the Police always talk in the 'present' when speaking about a past event? They always sound so ridiculous. confused

Yes, very unique is an irritant, like 4a.m. in the morning!

I cannot stand "police speak" - it is so pathetic. It is as if they think it makes them sound more important, when in fact it is just comical.

Just got back from our local craft pottery buying Christmas presents - and saw this thread. While I was at the pottery I picked up their beautifully designed leaflet promoting the business - and then I saw it

'The most unique pottery in Oxfordshire'. I tutted very loudly drew it to the attention of the assistant, who being an older woman and well grounded in the English language, added her tuts to mine and said she would let the management know about what she completely agreed was a real faux-pas.

Oh yes! It can't be qualified.

Also had a word in my local jeweller's shop today about the ubiquitous apostrophe: "Ruby's, emerald's redesined to your specifying."
The response was "Well, I suppose it's the new way."
Aaaaaaggggghhhhh! (Emoticon is needed)
