Yes, 'nice', especially, was rather despised at my school as a descriptive word. Our fierce English teacher used to say "Think beyond bland, girls!". Of course, her nickname became 'Beyond Bland'.

No, I don`t like it either. When I was at school in the fifties and sixties, we were asked not to use words like: nice, get and - indeed - a lot, when writing essays. I suppose that life has become much less formal than it once was.

grin Alot.

I wonder if the brilliant artist/blogger can now come up with a picture of a 'boardof'?
I'm very bored with hearing 'I'm bored of going clubbing', or 'I'm bored of beans on toast for lunch'................ etc
I very much fear that 'bored of' is replacing the more correct 'bored with'.

Love it .Thank you NannaAnna.A good start to the day. I was feeling down.
this made me laugh so much.

I hate 'gonna' for 'going to' - not only used in pop songs now, but also in written messages (not on GN though!)
'Should of' is used because grammar (i.e. auxiliary verbs) is no longer taught.

I have always liked the descriptionof the beach with "muscles on the groin". That sounds the same too - and even makes sense in its own sweet way!

gracesmum Tue 10-Apr-12 21:21:33

It comes down to what makes sense. "I would of" simply doesn't . It's irrelevant whether it sounds nearly the same, lots of words do and are stuill wrong. One wonderful (I suppose malapropism) example I heard recently was that "I bear the grunt"....! smile

Phoenix, do you mean 'like' when 'as if' should be used? One of my 'betes noir', along with 'I would of..' Instead of 'I would have ..' or even I would've..' Why do these things make us so cross, it's only words after all!

Sewsilver Wed 21-Mar-12 23:17:24

Thanks NanaAnna, cheered me up Alot.

Anagram Wed 21-Mar-12 22:36:15

grin It's probably very similar to the one I have about "nice"!

Anne58 Wed 21-Mar-12 22:28:01

Oh, ignore, I think I may have cocked up made a mistake, often do.

I do have a thing about "like" though.

Anagram Wed 21-Mar-12 22:10:59

Please elaborate, phoenix - which like don't you like? (If you see what I mean! smile

Anne58 Wed 21-Mar-12 22:06:31

OK, but it does contain the dreaded "like". Or is it only me?

NannaAnna Wed 21-Mar-12 20:31:00

Glad you all enjoyed it grin
My eldest daughter posted it on Facebook as it's a blog she follows.
