I get irritated during a news broadcast when we are told that a tragedy, or an atrocity 'took place' eg 'the bombings took place at midday'.
They don't take place.
They happen.
Ceremonies like weddings and funerals take place, but not accidents or other traumatic events.

"Moving forward" - seems to get added to just about every pronouncement, I'm not sure I even know what it means.

"On a daily basis" - what's wrong with "every day"? - why does this irritate me? - am I turning into Disgusted of Tonbridge Wells? - can this be reversed? - is it all downhill now?

'Looking forward'. Whats wrong with 'in the future'. Although I did hear someone yesterday talk about 'In the future looking forward' and I did toy with what the future would be like if we looked back rather than forward.

As a nation, we seem to have changed, in the course of about half a century from understatement to hyperbole.

That Sports Personality Award was cringe making, but what upset me about it was that I've seen Zara interviewed many times and she's incredibly witty; she really was shocked to win it, although she very much deserved to. Her boyfriend suffered for years on the rugby pitch afterwards, with cries of 'amazing' everytime he handled the ball.

I like the word "amazing" think it ecletic !!

j05 I've always referred to most things as fab just a carry on from my teen years but it is always understood and appreciated by who ever I am referring too,but I like amazing also.
