Another remarkable use of the apostrophe

I couldn't believe that I'd actually posted "it's self" the other day. What was I thinking.
I didn't have time to edit.

I very nearly wrote 'would of' the other day!!

I'm sure my grammar has improved since I joined GN - there do seem to be a lot of retired teachers

I shared a post on Facebook yesterday and then looked at it in horror:
"It's amazing how young grandparent's are once you become one" it said.
I immediately deleted it, but then wondered if I could photoshop it.
It worked! Offending apostrophe removed, and photo-shot re-posted with no offence caused.
There's a slightly wider gap than there should be between the t and the s, but nowhere near as traumatising as the superfluous apostrophe!

As a still-working proofreader, I can bore for England on the subjects of grammar and spelling. Or so my beloved family tells me.
And don't mention the clangers on the Beeb these days - where have their standards GONE?

Our local garden centre is selling Pansy's today.

Pansy's what? The mind boggles.

I'm trying to teach myself Russian at the moment, and was looking on Amazon for a book to help me practise the very complicated grammar. I found one that looked ideal, but then noticed that one of the sentences in it referred to " ... the boss'es car ..."!

Surprisingly (or foolishly?), I have still gone ahead and bought it, telling myself that as the author is Russian, the mistake is perhaps excusable, and that hopefully his Russian is perfect.
That's not like me - as I think I have mentioned elsewhere, DH and I have been known to walk around for hours looking for a cafe that doesn't claim to sell "sandwiche's", "lunch box'es to take out", and "tea's".

Glad to know that I'm not alone in posting things with grammatical typos in them though. Someone once sent me a PM to tell me I'd just put an apostrophe in the possessive "its". How embarrassing! Fortunately, it was a site where it is possible to edit posts.

Is anyone else beside me getting paranoid about where I'm putting apostrophes, and grammar in general?

Well GinnyT - just don't try telling them what's wrong or they might tell you where they think you should put it, or the response might be like my experience on fb yesterday!!

Ella me too - it's a bit like when you say a word over and over and then it just sounds wrong. I guess there are a lot of retired teachers on GN
