Why is a comma like a kitten?

A kitten has claws at the end of its paws

And a comma marks a pause at the end of a clause! smile

Haven't heard that one Terrafirma1, but will try to remember it for use with people who have trouble with commas. When teaching the DC to read and also when teaching SIL the use of the comma, with which he was previously unfamiliar, I told them that a comma was where you would take a small breath and a full stop was a bigger one.

I've not heard that one either! It took me a while to work it out!!! Well, it is nearly my bedtime and I've had a brain aching day

I am rather too fond of the exclamation mark! Are there any rules on their use?

Same here!
Perhaps we should have a fluffy kitten emoticon?
