On that theme Merlot how can someone 'commit' suicide? You normally commit a crime and suicide hasn't been a criminal offence since 1961.

Yesterday I watched an interview with a woman who had been self harming. She said she had periods of suicidality.

When describing a food product that can be used in a recipe, why are we told 'It eats well?'

I was watching the Great North Run this morning. One of the commentators mentioned that one of the elite athletes had "medaled" at the Commonwealth games and the European championships. Since when have you been able to turn a noun into a verb. When I went to school, to meddle, meant to interfere.

Or a story? I can't store my library of photo folders online now, I am meant to create a pictorial 'story'.

I'm on a roll tonight! Why is everything a journey now?

Katek Sun 07-Sept-14 18:51:13

Or people 'stamp their mark' on new houses.....grr!

Not petty at all! It's creeping in everywhere. I once even emailed the local NHS trust after the two entrances to our brand new multimillion pound emergency centre were labelled "Adult's" and "Children's". They're still there.

I hate hearing in cafés someone saying 'Can I get a cappuccino?' Is it American?
Oh and why are prizes always 'up for grabs'? Ugh!

Katek I also dislike "wants to be" for inanimate objects.

Them "That tree wants cutting down!" Me "So when did the tree tell you that. Petty I know.

Nelliemoser Sun 07-Sept-14 14:58:15

JaneR I have made exactly that same reply to my son.

DBH is currently annoyed on a daily basis with DS, as every evening when he comes home he asks how he is and receives the reply of 'I'm good, thanks'. To which DBH replies 'I am not interested in the state of your morals at this precise moment, I just want to know if all is well!'.

Of not if ... blame the Kindle!

"Drawring" is one if my bugbears, as in "the nights are drawring in"

rockgran Sun 07-Sept-14 09:46:05

I have a friend who used to point out the "for free" irritation.
Now I can't avoid hearing it and it drives me mad! I find myself shouting at the tv, "For nothing or free....aaaaaargh!"
(Need a lie down.)confused

YES yes yes

suebailey1 Sun 07-Sept-14 09:20:50

I agree Katek all really annoying but DH is very fed up with me I even picked holes in the notices on the golf course on Friday. 'Keep off of the greens during spraying'. Really!

Katek Sat 06-Sept-14 21:24:56

I shout at the tv now......I must be getting old! It's only when I hear things like;
"For free"
"Off of"
"Should of"
"The hall needs painting" No it doesn't, it needs (to be) painted!
