Correcting grammar on Wiki

Last week I heard two different weather presenters say that the weather would be "reverting back" to being cold again.

Clearly they were all getting a bit bored of it, like, at the Met Office, and y'know, kinda wanted a bit more of the action.

I'm about to retire from teaching English as a foreign language and have to grit my teeth regularly to allow that my 1950s' standards are having to slip inexorably westwards with the onslaught(er) of US versions.
I do accept that language moves on, I just loathe it moving downwards! 'Adj. good/ Advb. well' is an impossible rule when we all hear, "How are you?" A. "I'm good". (To which I instinctively reply, "And are you always so well-behaved?") Don't get me started on 'fewer' v. 'less than', but thank you, Sainsbury's and M&S, for getting it correct.

Anyone else bored by 'bored of'?

And oh, those 'deceptively spacious' estate agents' properties. If only one of them would dare to say, 'deceptively pokey', which is what they really mean!

Not ending a sentence with a preposition has never reached Cornwall where anyone asking for directions is likely to say " Where's it to?" It gets more complicated when "to" is used instead of "from" as in "Where did you get it to?" It took us a while to get used to all the possible permutations.

Not just special classes for estate agents, special sanctions-I could think of a few.

There was a light-hearted discussion on this on the Today programme - John Humphrys told an anecdote of a young chap from the Deep South on his first day at Harvard.

He asked a couple of sophisticated-types "Hi ya'll can you please tell me where the bathroom's at?"

"Here, we tend not to end a sentence with a preposition" was the reply

"OK, can you please tell me where the bathroom's at, assholes"

'The accommodation comprises 10 bedrooms....'

or

'The accommodation is comprised of 10 bedrooms...'

but never, never, never, never

'The accommodation comprises of 10 bedrooms...'

There should be special classes for estate agents. I'd arrange one for a massive fee.

I have just read about this man in Christopher Howse's column in today's Telegraph. More power to his elbow!! But he might like to glance into Pedants' Corner occasionally just to reassure himself he is not entirely alone!

Don't get me started on estate agents, phoenix. Did I ever mention the 'defused lighting' in the garage?

Estate agents are very fond of "comprised of". "Comprising" I could tolerate........
