Have I got the maths wrong somewhere?

In case the photo isn't clear it says the pack contains 9 rolls with 160 'sheets' in each roll.

9x160 = 1440 (sheets)

1440 / 4.5 = 32

So why do Sainsburys think this equates to 31.3p per sheet? hmm

Hope it's permanent ink! grin

The mind boggles!hmm do you think Which magazine would be interested in your findings?

PS lost count again so now writing the number in each sheet as I go along.

Well it seems to me that the same subjects keep coming up again and again on GN.

Surely this is a first? hmm

Do we have sad lives or what?grin

Anya Fri 16-Oct-15 12:06:36

That's 50p a roll as against 43.75p a roll

Bum! Now you've made me lose count Ana

1, 2, 3, 4, ....

Ana Fri 16-Oct-15 12:04:52

Is this the best fun we've had in many a morning on Gransnet? grin

Anya Fri 16-Oct-15 12:03:07

89, 90, 91, ..... Not sure it's all going to fit into a carrier bag ...92, 93,...

Ana Fri 16-Oct-15 12:02:30

You have to watch it with these multiple-roll packs. Tesco is offering a 9 pack of Andrex for £4.50 but the 4 packs are on special offer at 2 for £3.50!

Elegran Fri 16-Oct-15 11:57:53

If the count is short, will you take the unwound roll back to them for a refund? (in a carrier bag, of course, and charge them 5p for the bag)

Anya Fri 16-Oct-15 11:54:00

Wonder if there really is 160 shits sheets on each roll......hmm think lol go and count them now wink

Anya Fri 16-Oct-15 11:51:38

Yes, I'm always guilty of that Elegran

Anya Fri 16-Oct-15 11:50:20

X posts Elegran grin

Love the thought of everyine dashing to the calculator apps on their devices and screwing up their faces when faced with decimal points.

Elegran Fri 16-Oct-15 11:49:57

Your maths is still dodgy, Anya £4.5 / 1440 = 3.125 pence

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 16-Oct-15 11:49:53

shock

Rude. hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 16-Oct-15 11:48:48

And I'm not doing it.

So there.

Elegran Fri 16-Oct-15 11:48:21

If it really were 31.3 or 32 pence a sheet, that would be more than a pound a shit!

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 16-Oct-15 11:48:14

It's bad enough as it is! hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 16-Oct-15 11:47:34

"Left out the 100 sheets bit in the OP"

!!!

How do you expect us to work it out if you leave bits out?! hmm

wink

Anya Fri 16-Oct-15 11:47:25

oK it's

4.5 / 1440 = 31.25

Elegran Fri 16-Oct-15 11:46:30

Ana I have been doing division sums on a calculator and then multiplying them back again to check.

Elegran Fri 16-Oct-15 11:45:14

And they told us it would all be so much simpler with decimalisation!

Elegran Fri 16-Oct-15 11:44:12

Your maths is dodgy, anya but so is theirs.
You have the sum the wrong way round.
If you divide the £4.50 by 1440, you get 3.125 pence per sheet, the right answer.
They have done rounded it up and put the decimal point in the wrong place

You divided 1440 by 4.5 to get 320 - and then put in the decimal point in the wrong place.

Alea Fri 16-Oct-15 11:42:43

Oh sheet! Sainsbury's hadn't reckoned on a Gransnet Gran !grin

Ana Fri 16-Oct-15 11:42:06

Or have they...? hmm
