...when people say, " the proof is in the pudding"?

Liaise Thu 26-May-16 21:31:47

Growing a business. Do they plant them? Heard on TV and also seen in newspapers. Does nobody use increase these days.

I know someone who always refers to his "boy cousin" and his "girl cousin". I am always surprised each time he says it.

annodomini Thu 26-May-16 10:01:32

People who say 'pacific' when they mean 'specific'. It happens on the media now too.

pollyperkins Thu 26-May-16 09:45:10

My music teacher when I was about 16 used to say Allelullia instead of Allelujah. It annoyed me even then.

pollyperkins Thu 26-May-16 09:38:47

I know someone in her 30s who refers to her son as little man and her daughter as little lady. It annoys me!

FarNorth Thu 26-May-16 09:30:50

"Would you buy a second hand car show off these men?" On the front of Radio Times this week.

Ana Sun 01-May-16 16:38:28

It's rather strange that 'little man' thing, isn't it? No one calls their granddaughter 'little woman'...

Jane10 Sun 01-May-16 16:24:07

I saw a poster on Facebook which said:
'There is no such thing as American English : just English and mistakes!!'

aquagran Sun 01-May-16 16:15:29

Stop calling grandsons " little men" ! They are children!

Ana Sat 30-Apr-16 17:20:16

I think a lot of Americans do. They also call aluminium 'aloominum'!

Jalima Sat 30-Apr-16 17:00:09

George W did that too lizzy
Frightening to think that his finger was on the nucular button

lizzypopbottle Sat 30-Apr-16 16:44:04

A fellow biology teacher used to say nuculus/nucula instead of nucleus/nuclear. Unforgivable! I'm certain she wouldn't describe the road as 'cula rather than clear!

When did schedule become skedule ? All my son's generation say the latter and it annoys me.

wot Thu 28-Apr-16 15:59:47

Yes, grumpygran, I think it's quite rude!

Grumpygran12 Thu 28-Apr-16 15:40:21

Politicians saying 'look..'all the time when they are being interviewed and trying to explain something

sunseeker Thu 28-Apr-16 08:31:27

Some years ago we had a local politician who began every answer to a question with the words "quite frankly" - for some reason it really annoyed me!

Antjexix Thu 28-Apr-16 08:28:07

shock

BBbevan Thu 28-Apr-16 08:24:43

Or skelington !!

Antjexix Thu 28-Apr-16 08:17:36

My absolute least favourite word has got to be commiserations. Even just typing it annoys me...

Antjexix Thu 28-Apr-16 08:16:13

"Know what I mean" really annoys me. When people say chimely instead of chimney. Or calling Matalan Mataland. Or skeleton skelenton....grrrr

BBbevan Wed 27-Apr-16 20:57:56

With a twist . Leave it alone!

lizzypopbottle Wed 27-Apr-16 20:15:35

People can't seem to pronounce create. They say currate. And I loathe pop of colour and eclectic.

Christinefrance Fri 22-Apr-16 21:39:37

Why is everyone on a journey now, is it dramatic licence ??

ElaineI Fri 22-Apr-16 18:38:08

"you know" as every second or third phrase, "actually" used in the same way and my boss keeping saying "thinking out the box".

wot Fri 22-Apr-16 15:29:05

"Around issues" they always say around rather than about.
