Why do people persist in saying FebUary and not FebRuary also TUmeric and not TuRmeric its so irritating.

February I'm not so bothered by, but TUmeric gets my goat. It is so obviously written TURmeric. I've been known to shout at cookery programmes on TV and correct them. They never listen though.

Maybe they find it difficult to pronounce 'r' twice?
I find it hard to pronounce 'serrurier' (locksmith).

TriciaF bravo for trying to pronounce "serrurier"! Different league ( and language, sounds, position of 'r" in throat, etc.) to turmeric and February. Respect!

'serrurier' I don't have difficulty with this, but I pronounce it as French. Is it a french or English word?
French 'R's are different , you can't slur them :-)

Pacific instead of specific, always annoys me.

I heard Ken Bruce bemoaning brassic for boracic (skint). grin

I Came across your posts and so agree with you all. Using Sh instead of S as in pershuit for persuit irritates. The one I find most irritating is substituting of for have as in could of. Makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
