No OldMeg the issue is what you use to blow your ose!

OldMeg Sat 23-Dec-17 22:18:23

It’s the apostrophe that’s the issue.

As plurals of elf, both elfs and elves have long histories in English, and there is plenty of precedent for both, but elves has always been the more common form by far.

You only gave to read through an average thread here on Gransnet to debunk the idea that we grans are any better. Just saying! grin

chelseababy Sat 23-Dec-17 16:37:34

Isn't the point that the plural is elves?

Christinefrance Sat 23-Dec-17 16:21:45

This issue around wrongly placed apostrophes seems to have escalated recently. It would appear to be almost a badge of honour to place as many apostrophes as possible on signs etc. It would be better to omit them altogether rather than place them wrongly.
Love the 'elf's and shelf's '

....presumably for the new 'tradition" of elf's on shelf's.

I know not everyone has been lucky enough to have been been tort proper like wot I was, but oh, dear...
