I love chez lounge!

Sloppy speech is definitely getting worse.

I think the "Haitch" battle is lost. That Doctor on "Trust Me" said it last week. She's an educated professional so what hope is there?

"Amount/ number" and "less/ fewer" seem to belong in the same camp - routinely confused.

The other one where the battle is lost already is "disinterested".

Hopeless case.

I despair, I really do.

My local Freecycle once had a 'chez lounge' free to a good home. smile.

So.....I'm now preparing to tell you something very important:
Listening to Radio 4 (all other talk radio and tv chat shows will work too) and the word 'So' appears routinely as the opening word, causing me to sing 'far, ray, me, doh' and completely lose track of the meaning of the dialogue. Sorry to ruin talk radio for anyone else!

What about the new art installation in Newcastle- turning Grey's Monument into a "Workers' Maypole"- which originally said "Workers or the World Unite". It has hastily been corrected

annodomini Tue 26-Jun-18 09:57:38

A house we once viewed had 'defused lighting' in the garage. grin

Katek Tue 26-Jun-18 08:42:57

Just seen, “harbour has billiards up so they can’t get in” confused

pollyperkins Tue 26-Jun-18 07:34:03

And less instead of fewer. You even see it in written adverts : 'with less calories' etc. Grr!

Eskay10 Mon 25-Jun-18 23:04:44

The number of people of people using ‘amount’ instead of ‘number’ is getting longer by the day. Even the newsreaders on the BBC get it wrong constantly. Together with mispronounced ‘aitches’ and ‘Haitches’, somethinks, and poor diction, I’m turning into a grumpy grammar pedant.

Liposuction?

MawBroon Sun 24-Jun-18 17:33:34

Clearly the “fête worse than death” we read about!

In another place and not that long ago (which shall remain nameless) I have read about somebody's “bazaar behaviour” presumably holding tombolas all over the place! grin

ninathenana Sun 24-Jun-18 17:00:31

sodapop Sun 24-Jun-18 16:16:35

I have seen this error so many times phoenix people don't know the difference between defuse and diffuse.

The other regular one is council and counsel. It would be quite expensive to keep one's own council.

Rosieroe Sun 24-Jun-18 14:38:24

Just this morning on the Good Housekeeping facebook page I saw a post about the recent royal wedding where it was stated that Megan’s tiara was ‘leant’ by the Queen. Did it look crooked to you?

Property section of yesterday's Telegraph recommends using "subtly defused fragrances"

Well, you wouldn't want your Airwick exploding while prospective buyers were looking at the downstairs loo, would you? grin

DeeWBW Mon 11-Jun-18 15:35:53

Oh dear! I could write a book on this!

ninathenana Fri 08-Jun-18 17:44:39

Not spelling or grammar but I couldn't stop grin
Lady was asking for a few extra turfs to finish her lawn. She finished her request with "same colour as this please"
