When is a cube not a cube?

How about spirals and helixes? I always think of a spiral as a spring, and a helix as a gramaphone record, but I think they are interchangeable..
And what is a walnut whip? A spiral helix or a helical spiral?
Or just a treat?

...and chocolate rarely comes in squares. It is usually rectangular, but not square and then of course there's Toblerone.

Not to mention the 'Ice Cube Bags' on a roll. Not only are the resultant pieces of ice not cubes, but they're not cuboids either - in fact they don't even have corners. They're just rounded nuggets of ice. Ice cubes? hmmgrin

No wonder my cooking does not turn out well with this sort of error in the ingredients !!

Marydoll Sun 10-Feb-19 19:00:38

Knorr have always been cuboids. I used to make them in the Knorr factory in my summer job as a student over forty years ago.
I once had a nosebleed, while working on the stock cube line. You can imagine the chaos that caused. grin

I use Marigold, too, Aggie'although I am always vaguely concerned that I'm adding powdered rubber gloves to my food. grin

Cherrytree59 Sun 10-Feb-19 18:42:16

Aggie flower called Bisto??

I'm scratching my head as to the powder named after a flower?confused

aggie Sun 10-Feb-19 18:37:15

I prefer the powder, named after a flower wink as I find I can get the flavour right and not worry about the shape

Ahem, I buy the Knorr stock pot things, the packaging has no indication of shape.

Knorr have never been cubes. Oxo always were and still are

PECS Sun 10-Feb-19 18:07:15

Have Knorr ever been cubes? Oxo are still but I always think of Knorr as cuboid! How remiss of me not to notice this error!

aggie Sun 10-Feb-19 18:03:17

I had to google " cuboid " blush

Jalima1108 Sun 10-Feb-19 18:00:01

How on earth are we supposed to bring up the next generation properly when this sort of thing is rampant in our kitchen cupboards?

Parsley3 Sun 10-Feb-19 17:20:17

It does indeed. Trade descriptions! We can’t let standards slip or who know where it will all end. ?

granfromafar Sun 10-Feb-19 17:16:05

Bought packet of Knorr chicken stock cubes (other makes are available) and when I opened it, lo and behold, they were not cubes at all but cuboids! Does this warrant a strongly worded letter to the manufacturer? Just saying.
