There's just not enough time in the day to list them all but my major gripe is when OF is used in place of HAVE! Arrgghhh!

I know I was joking .Are you in France ? I'm a bit bored today that's all smile

sodapop Wed 22-Apr-20 16:07:38

The business world is a whole other "oeuvre". In one company I worked for we would take bets on how long it would take managers to say a particular word or phrase in meetings. Such as " vis a vis" "outside the box" " in real terms" and " so on and so forth". Certainly helped us to stay awake. ?

sodapop now dont start us on au fait grin

Spot on Discogran some people just like the jargon to prove they are au fait with the business world.

Oooh that sounds like a good challenge for anyone who's bored this morning ?

DiscoGran Wed 22-Apr-20 10:49:08

"Increasing" might do it.

I feel this is a rediculas theme to draw a reaction from anyone.

By example, in Distribution Centres, it is always stated that at the start of October the centre will begin "ramping up" operations for the Christmas period. The foregoing makes it clear to staff the shift patterns etc will be changing etc.

In the same, all through the year you will hear it stated that we will be " ramping up the output of "whatever product" as it is going onto special offer". That informs the staff that a picking operation pattern will change. Many other industries use the exact same phrase for staff information.

Perhaps those who do not like the phrase would care to put forward an alternative to this simple two-word phrase that is widely understood and accepted throughout the working world.

Are we still trying to flatten the sombrero

An unprecedented, exponential ramping up

As for covidiot. Every time I see that written I start to fume

It may well have been clever the first time, but now all papers appear to have adopted it and it makes them sound absurd

SIL!

Teetime Wed 22-Apr-20 09:34:07

At the start of this my SILK, a biologist kept saying exponential- drove me mad all weekend now that weekend seems a long long while ago.

DiscoGran Wed 22-Apr-20 09:32:26

I think we should all ramp up our efforts to not let the small stuff wind us up. Chillax.
(Now that's an annoying word) ?

I think in this unprecedented crisis, I'm gonna ramp up my reading cos I wanna find out who the murderer is and what the new guy is up to.

sodapop Tue 21-Apr-20 20:43:22

I know its true but I'm so tired of hearing 'unprecedented ' .

SalsaQueen Tue 21-Apr-20 19:18:04

Me too. A lot of phrases irritate me.

phoenix Tue 21-Apr-20 19:17:36

I think my neighbours are considering put in a ramp, just saying.......

eazybee Tue 21-Apr-20 19:17:26

Well, I am tired of reading 'I'm gonna',and 'I wanna'.

grannyrebel7 Tue 21-Apr-20 19:07:58

If I hear the word "ramp" one more time ......arrggh! It's on every news bulletin - we're ramping up this ramping up that. I hate it!
