‘I WOULD SAY’! It’s just so silly.

This phrase really annoys me! They could just say what they wanted instead of using this ridiculous phrase. To me, it’s like ‘squaring the circle’ (impossible)!

Are there any phrases that other find equally irritating. I’d like to put them in Room 101 but that’s a different thread!

Aep girl, me too! Ditch the elephant ASAP!
I dislike most of what’s already been added though some are new to me but, my bad, simples, haitch and of for have, come top of my list.
When questions are asked at the briefing and they say, “That’s a very good question,” when what they’d really like to say is “Don’t you listen? We answered that yesterday.” Anything said by Laura Keunssberg
The new one that I’m about to hate is The Blame Game. Read it or heard it mentioned about 11 times since yesterday!

'surreal' totally overused and misused.

Bazza Wed 20-May-20 11:37:35

I myself. And in this moment in time. Grrrrr

Seefah Wed 20-May-20 11:34:19

Woke ! Especially coming from people who are barely conscious !
Does that work for you Grrrr.
What does my bad mean?

Aepgirl Wed 20-May-20 11:20:35

Elephant in the room. I’d like that to be Elephant in room 101.

Nanachoochoo Wed 20-May-20 11:13:46

Different to. It's similar to, different FROM

When I ask my GC if they want, say, a cup of tea, they say, "I'm good, thank-you, irritates me.

Craftycat Wed 20-May-20 11:07:19

'I'll tell you for why' Drives me crazy & it did my Mum too.
Mind you there are a lot of things that drive me crazy right now!!

25Avalon Wed 20-May-20 11:03:09

How about “laters” instead of goodbye when you may never see that person again! I don’t think they are referring to the hereafter!

lilyH Wed 20-May-20 11:02:14

I get fed up when looking through msm home page that almost every article has " so and so reveals " something ...

Jaycee5 Wed 20-May-20 11:02:04

I agree. It's also nonsense. A totally meaningless way to introduce something that you actually do say. It has always irritated me.

Gransooz Wed 20-May-20 11:00:05

Draw for drawer, brought for bought. Lots of those already mentioned. I could feel the annoyance rising within by just reading them! ??

Glenfinnan Wed 20-May-20 10:58:04

and ‘It’s a journey’ and ‘unchartered water’ as said by Nicola Sturgeon every few minutes!

Glenfinnan Wed 20-May-20 10:56:00

The phrase ‘You’re Joking Me’

Pearlsaminger Wed 20-May-20 10:47:39

My bad. Drives me nuts. Why do adults have to revert to being 2 year olds learning to speak ?

And... ‘I should of’ - it’s ‘I should have’

Growing0ldDisgracefully Wed 20-May-20 10:46:54

"He (or she) turned round and said" - does that mean people are constantly spinning round when they speak?

My bad is another silly phrase, and our local weatherman always says "this is how things (or the weather) is set up" - does someone somewhere actually set up clouds, sunshine etc?!

Sickofweddingcake Wed 20-May-20 10:36:35

Haha...Toddleo:
I was just reading through all of the replies, to make sure I didn't repeat anything that had already been said; and yours was the last post!
SO... starting EVERY sentence with SO... my absolute pet hate!

Gwenisgreat1 Wed 20-May-20 10:34:25

Agree with Helgawills - At this moment in time - is there any other time we can have this moment?

Also where has problematic come from? Can they just say It's a problem?

Rant over!!

Toddleo Wed 20-May-20 10:27:58

Starting sentences with "So...." which seems to happen all the time amongst the younger generation, and "can I get..." when they get to the front of the queue.....Aagghh, "no, the person who is behind the counter is employed to get it for you..."

homefarm Wed 20-May-20 10:26:37

Absolutely agree.
This one is masonic in origin.
Complete rubbish

Kiwigramz Wed 20-May-20 10:23:19

Simples instead of simple

GrannySomerset Wed 20-May-20 10:22:00

“Coming days” meaning absolutely nothing precise. Very popular with news reporters who don’t know when something will happen/be announced/be done.

janeainsworth Wed 20-May-20 10:20:21

Am I the only one who’s wondering what’s wrong with saying ‘I would say’? and in what context it’s annoying?

JudyPat Wed 20-May-20 10:18:57

Mine is .............. working 24/7 365.
Impossible to do!

Rosieroe Wed 20-May-20 10:17:31

Dragonfly46 - I complained via email to a local garden centre when the tomato plant in a home delivery from them was completely bent over at the base and a pack of 6 geraniums had only 5 plants. Their response: “Oops! My bad.” (They did replace them.)
