I had a sudden vision of Prince Harry taking part in a haka, though somehow that could be entirely in character.

Oops!??I thought it was a phonetic version of Māori which was used later in the paragraph! blush

It looks like a play on words to me, too, Maw.

But what is 'Mauri' all about? I've no idea, please enlighten me.

I take it back - see what you mean.
But say “Mauri” out loud and you’ll hear what it should have been.

Nope. Sounds like morey (a non word) to me. Still none the wiser. What is the context?

I believe that "mauri" is a word in the Maori language.

It was The Metro who used the ‘handing over the reigns’ line
It’s quoted here too. It’s not a mistake

They are quoting the above headline though!
It’s a ‘what the papers say’ piece

I’m not convinced it’s a play on words- I think it’s just because they got it wrong ☹️☹️☹️

FannyCornforth Tue 10-May-22 08:14:08

Yes. It’s because it’s a quote. Sorry Maw!

FannyCornforth Tue 10-May-22 08:12:53

Is it because the BBC website is quoting the news headlines (as pictured above?)
The headline quoted (I can’t make out which paper it is) is clearly using the word ‘reigns’ as a play on ‘reins’.
I’m not sure; the jury is out!

MawtheMerrier Tue 10-May-22 08:07:59

It’s bad enough to read about reigning back ? but this is even worse

The same website yesterday referred to Prince Harry’s affinity with Mauri (sic) values.
