The nuclear and specific mispronounced words irritate me as well. The other one is Febuary- it's FebRuary grrrr

Febuary gets me shouting at the radio too. Also libary instead of library. Quite agree about nucular.

Here, interesting!

They might be correct (or should I say 'accepted') in the US, but not here. Americans seem never to have got to grips with the way 'aluminium' is spelled. How they square the spelling with their pronunciation is beyond my limited understanding.

Don’t all Americans pronounce the word ‘nuclear’ as ‘nucular’? I shall have to Google it now.

George W Bush pronounced it like that.

Americans seem to say Aloo-min-um and not Aluminium - are both correct?

Nuclear worries me a lot more than how it is pronounced, tbh.

... and pacific instead of specific.

And the footblers

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 21-Aug-22 09:36:31

Yes, that’s another. As you can see this was not a good start to my day!

Then there’s secertary and athaletics

Lexisgranny Sun 21-Aug-22 09:30:42

Couldn’t agree more GSM. My pet hate is artitect instead of architect, which seems prevalent on the current crop of house makeover programmes.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 21-Aug-22 09:26:14

Yet again I’ve just heard this pronounced ‘nucular’ - by a tv reporter. Why is it that so many seem incapable of pronouncing the word correctly?
