I have an elderly friend whose mind is not as sharp these days but she still loves this kind of thing and delights in forwarding them. Here is another she sent.

Some very good examples! Now where did I put that Oxford comma......

Esspee Fri 02-Dec-22 12:06:15

Hi Marydoll sometimes you want to contribute but don't have enough time to write an explanation.

I’m definitely a pedant, fully paid up. These are hilarious, thankyou all. I’m like Marydoll, I check my posts and cross my fingers!

'This door is alarmed' on the door at Tesco. Some wag added 'but the window is scared of nothing'

Both my children have been known to 'correct' their friends' Facebook posts. On one occasion after such a correction DD wrote " Sorry! I was raised by the grammar police!"
So that would be me I guess!

Not a grammar post, just amusing. Poster outside the local chapel, ‘Jesus Saves’ and somebody had added ‘with the Abbey National.’

It’s like this
I’m hungry!
Let’s eat, Grandma.
Or
I’m hungry,
Let’s eat Grandma.

I have a mug with that on 🤣

:-)

Oh I'm with you on this one. My grammar is far from perfect, but separating up a sentence with commas, then ending them with a full stop is basic taught English, ins't it??? I always read and edit my FB, WhatsApp and emails before I send them.

Owing to the weather there was no body at the funeral

What is this thing called love?
What is THIS thing called, love?
What is this THING called, love?

This reminds me of the age-old graffiti artist who wrote under the sign to "Felixstowe for the Continent" ....

wait for it

...."And Frinton for the Incontinent"

Whoops - I've done one myself now. Obviously the writer was not age-old. The story is.

John had had had where James had had had had had had had had the teachers approval

Can anyone who hasn't seen it before punctuate the above so that it makes sense?

Or even
King Charles walked and talked half an hour after his head was cut off.

Danger, men at work.

Wish I could find the birthday card once sent by a fellow-pedant sister:

Woman introducing one man to another, ‘You’ll like Simon - he’s an unsufferable pedant, too.’

That took me a minute to work out 😀
