I'm seeing 'surpassed' being used more and more in the sense of 'overtaken'.
While there is an element of 'overtaking' in the word, we pedants do all know that it actually refers to superior excellence, don't we?
Related is the increasing tendency to spell the overtaking 'passed' as 'past'...
I'm daily expecting to see 'surpassed' spelled as 'surpast' 😁
