I do not listen to the news. I read it online.

Pedants’ Corner surely cannot accept the term “British Standard Time”?!

I m afraid I pronounce Ireland as I land and that’s with a late Irish son in law and family still living there and very Irish grandkids no body has ever mentioned it being wrong

I have read somewhere that English English speakers are losing the 'r' sound in words, which seems to me to be a shame.

Why not? I myself prefer Greenich mean time, being old-fashioned, but as all of Britain officially has the same time, GMT and most of Europe is one hour ahead of GMT, I fail to understand the objection to Brtish Standard Tme.

I hear it on the BBC World Service and on YouTube videos from Australia and USA.

Can't say it any other way.
And I very much doubt anyone is monitoring the newsreader's speech beyond that it keeps to the script.

There is no such thing as British Standard Time. It’s either GMT or British Summer Time (depending on the time of year).

Now I'm puzzled as to why I use it! I guess I innocently thought it described the time in Britain as compared to other countries. Who knew that it would cause so much tutt-tutting from Gransnetters!?

Internationally the time used by scientists (and others, perhaps) is UTC (Coordinated Universal Time, but presumably in French?). It is the same as Greenwich Mean Time and doesn't change with anybody's daylight saving time changes.
