It's claimed that computers are capable of functioning at a scarily fast speed, and so.........why does a Direct Debit leave my bank account in a split second but takes up to 4 days to reach it's intended destination?

why when you buy something your bank account is immediately debited but return it for a refund takes 4 days?

The money is accruing interest in the seller's bank account for those four days, which might be the answer.

Or simply that they are short staffed in the book-keeping dept. that deals with refunds.
