Brilliant little letter in today’s Times,

Sir, I was horrified to spot the use of ‘obligated’ in your leading article. Any more of these Americanisms and I may be obliged to withdraw my subscriptionality.’

Beautiful! It's a salve to my poor benighted soul to know that at least one other person out there writes such letters to one of the main assassins of English. Yes, language is an evolving thing, but does the evolution of English really have to be influenced quite so much by thoughtless sheep syndrome?
