Dh just forwarded a message from one of our (successful) local councillors, thanking those of us ‘who voted for myself, X and Y.’

I’m not sure why misuse of myself, yourself etc., has become so rife! Do people think it sounds cleverer, or more official, or what?

I have to grit my teeth when people ask me to "send it to myself" when I feel like shouting "Me! It's me, not myself!"

Yes, I think people do think that it's cleverer or makes them sound well-educated, Witzend. It gets right up my nose too!
