Virtual remembrance garden for pets

oh dear just had a phone call from my elder daughter who in turn has just had a phone call from the vets.. Buster her big cuddly bear has been agitated most of the night,, and this morning was taken to emergency vets..he had a twisted stomach, had op also take spleen out...came round from anasthetic ok and was perking up...but then strange thing is daughter brought him down to ours on Monday and took a great picture with grandson..!! which was a bit unusual! (will post pic on my profile) oh dear......

Don't think of her as gone away, her journey has just begun.

I had to get my cat put to sleep about a month ago. The rawness of his dying is softening a little now, but I still step carefully during the night in case I stand on him in the darkness. Yes - a wee spot under the lilac bush where he could curl up, but still see me? That would be just fine for him, I think. Bless him.

I think that is a great idea - our old boy, a cross collie/lab was a lovely old chap who died aged 15 three years ago. When he had to be put to sleep I was crying, husband was crying and so was the vet, who had known him all his life. We do still have a dog but never forget Zac.

I think that would be a wonderful idea. Our little chap is on his last legs at the moment so this is our main topic of conversation at the moment.

A couple of years ago my GD's hamster died and she was naturally upset. However she organised a wonderful funeral for him and it gave her great comfort - something many of us will have to deal with as sympathetic grans. He was laid in a pretty cardboard box of her choice and then sent off down a local burn (stream!) while she and her friends stood on the bank waving him off. Not quite a Viking funeral but she dealt with it very well.

Not a bad idea yogagran, my lovely tom had to be put to sleep last year and I was too upset to take him but felt that when husband returned with him I could cope with a burial in the garden. He came home empty handed, something about vets preferring to dispose of bodies....and also we were ging to be moving at some point. Any way I was left with no final farewell and although not wildly romantic about such things I had rather fancied leaving him in the flower beds...its where he would spend the warm summer days often hiding for hours. So yes, in a virtual garden I would like a large heavily laden hydrangea for my darling boy to lie beneath, to keep him cool and where he can shyly peek out at us from time to time.

So glad you were able to have her put to sleep at home. that's the thing about losing a pet; because they're part of the fabric of your home for so many years, they leave a void. What a wonderful life she had, right up to the end.
