Inconsiderate dog owners!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

I completely agree with you it's disgusting, and gives decent dog owners a bad name. .. but another thing annoys me just as much and it's the fact that local authorities provide bins and then don't empty them. It's a little bit hypocritical to have signs saying use the bins, then seeing piles of dog poo bags on the floor next to the bins, from decent dog owners who have tried to do the correct thing.

I see a great difference from when I had a dog many years ago. We have a field near us which used to be covered in doggie poo. Nowadays most of the dog owners bring their doggie bags and put them in the bin. The bins seem to be emptied often enough. At least my grandchildren can play where my children could not. One thing that does annoy me is people leaving doggie bags on the ground and not putting them in the bins. However it is better than walking in doggie poo.

I always find it amazing that doggie bins - and even doggie toilet areas in some places - are provided but not toilets for humans

Most dog owners appear to be very conscientious about cleaning up dog poo in this area considering the number of dogs being walked and how little mess is left. However there are a few who I never managae to catch to give poo bags to. They must sneak out with their dogs when it is dark.

Has anyone attempted to offer poop scoop bags to the offending owners? You need a thick skin for this as the response is often abusive.

I agree about the lack of human toilets. Years ago there was a public loo in every park.

Although, who knows what would go on in public toilets these days!

Dog poo is not just unpleasant but unhealthy. When our children were young, my friends and I all had an easily accessible s**t kit in our homes – bucket, disinfectant, scrubbing brush, etc – to deal with buggy wheels, bike wheels, roller blades, kids' shoes, etc. No dog owner has any excuse for not clearing up behind their dog and I should like to see more policing of this (not necessarily actual police, maybe dog wardens and plastic plods). The town where I live does publish a list of people fined for not clearing up dog poo, littering etc. After my dog died, it took me almost a year to stop stuffing my pockets full of poo bags before I went anywhere. They were clean and empty, of course – I didn't miss him that much.

Some dog-owners just hurl the bag of poo into the hedge or the long grass - where it takes for ever to break down, longer than the original poo would have taken, and leaves a plastic bag to rot down too!

I looked out of the front window one day to see a neighbour from the next street watching fondly while his dog performed on my drive, just inside the open gate. When he saw me he yanked at the poor beast's lead and dragged it mid-poo to the gutter, as though the dog were to blame.

I took to washing down the pavement outside my house daily with a strong disinfectant, in the hope that either the dogs would be put off by the smell, or the owners would take the hint. One day a woman came past with her pooch (one I suspected of being an offender but had no proof) while I was pouring a wateringcanful of disinfectant water about. "You'll get a good crop" she said, as she guided the dog round me to save his little tooties from getting wet. My esprit de l'escalier would have been "Yes, it gets enough manure" but I only thought of it after I was indoors.

I always carry doggy-pooh bags everywhere with me; in fact in London last month at the theatre I dived into my pocket for a tissue and came out with 3 pooh bags - no tissue. My neighbour once found a disgusting steaming pile outside her front gate and saw the offending owner/dog disappearing down toward the beach. She shouted 'Coooey. excuse me.....' and ran after them 'I think you've dropped something back up the hill'; they returned with her and she said 'wait a moment - I'll get you a bag and a shovel' - it was wonderful! On the point of Human Loos, our council in their wisdom are about to close the 3 Superloos in our village as they are apparently too expensive to maintain. We live in a village heavily promoted by the Council as a place to visit and it heaves with visitors in the summer, so where are they supposed to go? Local shops and pubs have been asked to provide facilities instead - you can imagine what their reaction is.

I had to scrub my kids' shoes frequently because of dog poo in the ginnel through which they walked to school. One day I caught one of the owners allowing her dog to shit there on the footpath and asked her not to let that happen. Her affronted response was: Dogs have to go somewhere!
I said: Yes, but not on the footpath. People walk along here everyday. The gutter would be better.
But then it would get on car tyres, she said.

WHAT?!

Clearly, with such a stupid woman, I had to point out that cars don't walk into houses! Maybe that's where the problem lies — utter stupid lack of imagination.

After spending 3yrs planting tubs and putting up hanging baskets in the
front garden that I share with my neighbour (she has poor health so not able)
we decided to brighten up the grass verge area outside the front gate by
planting shrubs around the bottom of the tree's,all looked amazing when I
had finished and really made a nice differance,a lady who walks her dog
through the walkway continually let her dog wee on the plants and one day
I caught her and asked her to let the dog wee somewhere else,she said that
dog wee would not affect the plants and not to nag at her over something so
trivial so I told her if it didn't affect plants why not do it on her own garden
and kill her own plants.

Dog poo bins? You must live in a big city. Our council has removed almost all litter bins, except in the High Street, nor are any other streets cleaned. Litter and dog poo are left everywhere. People now seem to have no shame about it.

I think we should have dog parks like they have in the States and people would have to take their dogs there rather than ordinary parks. I remember being in Hong Kong (quite a few years ago) and wondering why the woman who were walking her dog was carrying a piece of newspaper then watched as the dog was doing its business and she placed the newspaper under it and then dropped the wrapped up newspaper into a doggie bin....magic...lol

grannysanny We do have areas in some urban parks specifically designated for dogs. Unfortunately, British dog owners seem to see these as dogs' lavatories rather than dogs' playgrounds so they end up knee deep in excrement. People's knees rather than dogs' knees eventually.

Some really good ideas here, it is disgusting. I think those who are brave enough to draw the owner's attention to it deserve a medal. In our area we also have foxes and badgers and the poor old dogs get blamed for it all.

Last week I was walking my dog along a pathway and some horses had been along there first, it was disgusting. I wish the riders had been made to bag up the mess. Mind you my father would have been there with his spade to put the mess under his roses

I agree about the human loos. We have two in our town and they are in a disgusting state, rarely getting cleaned.

Can I just add in walking the dog on multi use paths? Dogs out of control are lethal to cyclists. We take care, but dogs will dash out of the long grass, suddenly change direction or owners extend the long lead without a thought to other users. Thanks to those who hang on to the dog until others pass or who have good control and can call the dog to heel.
Even worse if the owner is plugged into an Ipod - can't hear any warning.
Owners get very abusive at times too!
