vets!!!

Why not ask around and see if someone can recommend a more sympathetic vet? Unlike the NHS our canine (and feline) friends enjoy private medicine and so we, their humans, are at liberty to choose a different "doctor". Is there another practice you could go to, or could your visits be on days that this unpleasant vet is not conusulting?

anne& it's horrid when our pets are ill, they mean so much to us. I think grace's suggestion is a good one. Either find a kinder vet at your current practice or use another practice, Rosie deserves better!

have a chat with your insurers and find out where you stand with regard to cover, anne. You're the one paying the premiums, not the vet.

This is the problem I have in that I thought I had 'life cover' for my dog whereas I only have 'twelve months cover' for each ailment. Your policy should tell you what cover you have. I had a horrid vet two years ago who told me at vaccination time that my dog was fat [she wasn't] and that it was wrong of me to give her treats such as small pieces of cheese and carrot [I mean, some people give their dogs ice cream and cream teas etc]. She then told me to give her a marrow bone for her teeth, which worries me because of splinters. I wish I'd complained about her at the time. She's no longer with them, and the new vets are lovely.

yes dont get me wrong the lady vet we normally see is lovely and this chap is ok just he is senior partner and I feel that money is his chief interest!!

my friend had worked there for over 20 years as receptionist so we get few persk ie she has direct line if we need urgent appt that sort thing and sadly we only have one other vet in this are and do not think they as good on the whole.

We changed insurance this year so will have to wait and see if they cough up, thank you for your comments ladies!!

When I thought my dog was very poorly I went back onto a sighthound site that I have found helpful in the past and there is an owner on it whose dog came down with a mystery illness a week ago; she seemed to be on the mend but now a week and £2,000 down the line she's back in the hospital and they still don't know what the problem is. I obviously don't know these people or their dog, but I do know how much they love her and I feel so sorry for them. Our pets break our hearts sometimes, don't they. Wish I could wave a magic wand.

bumped this up as our insurance have now agreed to pay for little Rosies treatment!! my OH decided to ring them again while I was out last Wed, and when got in they had rung my mobile, spoke to them at length and they accept our little pet had not had this infection before, also said the vets done us not favours to have put incorrect information on records!

We then spoke to vet, did not go down that well but he agreed to put matter straight with insurers.

Good news all round fingers crossed!! will not see that vet again if we can avoid it!!

That's good to hear. I've received a cheque for my dog's operation, but I'm now wondering how much I'll be paying monthly next year .

yep we still have to hear confirmation that vet has contacted insurer! as they have put exclusion clause on our policy now, so if he speaks to them or emails them they will take it off, at present have stopped direct debit!!

Rosie is nearly 10 so will not get another insurer, playing waiting game!!

grrr I will swing for that vet, got him to agree to put record straight with insurerers last Wed however OH just rang and he still not done it, may do it today!! who on earth do they thing they are!! not like we not been good clients for last 20 odd years!!

Insurance claims of all kinds make the claimer [claimant??] feel like a criminal in a 'guilty until proved innocent' sort of way. The only time I've ever claimed on my car insurance [hit and run whilst I was stopped at a red traffic light] I left the insurers in tears because they made me feel so awful .

blessed vet rang again last night! just before we were going have tea, he is still going on about it, I am afraid i was quite blunt and told him he was going to get his money and we had discussed all there was to say!!

He spoke to my OH first, had hectic day and did not want speak to him however did in end and regretted it. Now not sure what he is going to say to insurers the whole thing boils down to he does not want to admit incorrect records on Rosies notes grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

do agree insurers can have that effect.

We used to have no problem at all with the one cat we had insured, any claims I made were paid promptly with no argument. Then I put in a claim which was refused and I discovered that I had missed the note on the renewal letter which told me that, because she had reached the magic age of 12 the excess had doubled. As the excess was more than the normal charge for the odd things she came down with I couldn't see the point of paying the premiums. I now save some money each month in the hope of building up a decent emergency fund if we should need it.

That's what I did with my two dogs deedaa now they're better off than I am.

happy ending here!! no thanks to vet who was very ungracious as did not like me pointing out he had not right to put wrong information on Rosies records and mess up our insurance, he reluctantly contacted the insurance people who has already agreed to pay out as goodwill gesture and they have now removed the exclusions from policy!!

agree once pets get older they do bump up the premiums, this is only £15.50 month so will carry on for another year see what happens.

Have to admit the money does get raided when I need cash but so far I've managed to put it back later. Trouble is vets vary so much. Iwas able to get our latest kitten (yes I know I shouldn't have taken him in but!) castrated through the Cats Protection League, but had to go to a different vet because ours isn't in the scheme, but when I looked at vaccinations I found our own vet was a lot cheaper. Can't keep chopping & changing.
