Does anybody live in a road like mine?.

My cats don't seem to have read the right books. They all poo in their own garden! I suppose the upside is that the neighbours' cats don't come into ours, but it's not much of an upside. We've now got so many woodpigeons and magpies coming for food that the cats seem to be getting quite intimidated and don't seem to be trying to catch any of them.

we have our little king charles, but we clear up after her, the 2 cats next door are lovely but they come and poo on our drive way yuk!!!!!!

Varya Not all cats kill birds. Until this time last year, I had six cats. Only one of them killed birds – and that was usually out of boredom as he much preferred squirrels and rats. (He was the one who died last winter.)

I spoke too soon. Neighbour's daughter's boyfriend has moved in with ... a cat! Among all those labradors too. Let's hope it's a bossy cat.

Cats outnumber dogs completely around here. Most feline households have several cats. We have two rescue dogs. Not happy with the way cats kill birds. Not happy with my dog killing cats!

The ex council estate we live on was built with garages and parking some distance from the houses and the road is a cul de sac with no through traffic. The gardens back onto school playing fields and trees so it's ideal for small children and cats.We are in a line of houses where three (including us) have multiple cats, one used to have cats and one spent several years feeding one of our cats before we found out - they had even given him a name. We have one neighbour who has a darling Staffie but he's a bit outnumbered. Most of us feed the birds in the winter and the tits do seem to have got pretty savvy about avoiding the cats.

The ten houses on the side of the cul de sac where I live were built towards the end of the nineteenth century and seem to have alternating cats and dogs in residence.We have cats and our neighbours either side have dogs, then the piano teacher has a cat and so on. These houses have only small backyards which have been further reduced in size by the addition of kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms, etc over the years. The houses on the other side of the street were built much later – maybe 1930s or eve post war – and have large gardens but no pets in residence. (My house was originally number 8 and the houses weren't renumbered until the 1950s, when it became number 18.)

I wonder who first thought up the idea of giving cuttlefish bones to budgies?

What...real ones? Nooo..... I want the bone sort you wedge in a budgie's cage. They don't need vaccinations, walks, smelly food, hoovering up after or de-fleaing.

Notso; have you seen programmes about cuttlefish? They are adorable.

Chickens in a garden over the back......prize-winning ferrets next door and everyone else's cats pooing in my veg beds.

My ideal pet would be a cuttlefish.

Just a few cats no wandering dogs(except me of course)lol thankfully people respect the footpaths with a very few exceptions.

The local dog population has increased exponentially (ha ha- another word I hate, but that's a different thread!) Six months ago there was Grace, then Gizmo the collie whom she hates with a passion, Black Bess the labrador at the farm behind us and that was about it. Now within 100 yards of our house we also have Lucy the cocker spaniel puppy, next door to her, Milly her litter sister, 2 doors down there is a squashed face thingy caled George, Digby the spaniel opposite, and next door but one to us, Alfie who was bought as a smooth-haired Jack Russell puppy, but seems to have a Marcel wave, a head much too big for his body, and 6 claws on one paw.I see so many dogs out - from little things not much bigger than guinea pigs to my friend's greyhound and lurcher which I am ashamed to say Grace growls at as well. There are a fair few cats as well, but they haven't read the instruction manual and not knowing that they are supoosed to run away from dogs, stand their ground and poor Grace has to pretend she didn't want to chase them anyway and shuffle past, head down.

Nine houses, one dog and one cat (mine)

We are all elderly though.

4 Labradors next door, sometimes 6 if neighbour's son is away and leaves his two with her; Chihuahua across the road, mostly invisible. Few cats, possibly by reason of the Labradors - fortunately the quietest dogs imaginable.

All my immediate neighbours have dogs.. one each side and the three houses opposite.. I had cats but sadly they are both gone now..

11 houses, one dog [mine] one cat. I used to have 2 dogs and three cats though. Perhaps in some residential areas people have dogs for protection?

Cats appear to be the pet of choice around here. Perhaps its because the owners are either young and at work or very elderly.

I live in a cul de sac of 7 houses. The cats out number the people by a huge number. (We have three, next door have 6,and 2 dogs the next house also has 3, plus 2 dogs etc etc)

I like the idea of a dog on order – an internet canine, perhaps.
