Andie got accused of barking at 6am.

I hope he barked down the phone at them.

I remember lying awake one night in the early hours when we lived in Sheffield because of someone's dog barking and barking and barking. It stopped when someone stuck their head out of a window and bellowed loud enough to wake the dog owner (or kill the dog with a sound blast?): "SHUT THAT BLOODY DOG UP!"

Then I went to sleep.

A house in the next road changed hands about 2 years ago and the new owners complained about the amount of dogs in our close.
They wanted some of the dogs to go elsewhere.
Every house except 1 had a dog but to complete the close of dogs that I house had a dog on order from the breeder.
This situation has been going on for about 30 years.
Surely if they were not happy with the dog situation they should have not purchased the house.
That house is now up for sale.

I would presume that your neighbour knows you quite well for them to have your telephone number ? surely if they thought it was your dog barking they would have called at your home to see you face to face.

gracesmum That reminds me. When absentdaughter and I were living on our own I was advised to include a male name on the answerphone message for safety reasons. I added Max, the shortened version of our dog's name - well, obviously Maximum Dog would hardly convince a nuisance caller that a man lived there. So what happened? All my friends left messages, which often included barking, for Max.

I can not tell Andie not to bark as his job is to guard the house.
He does bark when the telephone rings or the door bell goes which is sometimes useful as I could not hear the phone was ringing when I was cleaning my teeth a few days ago.
A few weeks ago he barked when people were talking on the pavement at 3am. They did not try to break in but they could have been thieves.
I don't want to leave my phone off the hook as I have got several elderly relatives who could have an emergency.
I could get Andie to do a few woofs down the answering machine but the problem is catching him at the right time.

He looks up at my lap top screen and he seems to do it mainly when I am writing about him.

i loved reading this as i have 1 that barks,and 1 that thinks its too much trouble,i dont even try to stop barking cos its a warning (and a waste of time) she barks when the phone rings, next doors phone rings,people walk by,my sons hat on the coat peg,next doors open window,her own shadow ,the list is endless but she does sleep through the night and is a very loving little girl to everone even burglers i suspect they are unique and i love reading your stories thank you for making my day

I must say that I do take Andie seriously when he does bark.
He has never barked for a reason like somebody's hat being on a peg and he does bark if somebody comes on to the drive but not if they stay on the pavement except once when people were talking outside my house at 3am.
He does bark when the phone rings.
That was useful the other day as I was cleaning my teeth and I did not hear it.
Also he barked and would not let the matter go when I followed him.
I suddenly thought he was by my mobile phone. I checked it and it had rang but it was a junk call.
I don't think Andie could tell that.

hunterf i didnt mean to suggest you didnt take him seriously im sure you do,i was trying to explain that i have a dog that barks at everything and nothing,i always check what is getting her excited,i do look forward to reading about your Andie it makes me laugh
