I think it's time for Lily

I have posted before about our dear old Lily-Loo, re the fits etc, and still the fits (around 2 to 3 a day) don't seem to affect her too badly, except just lately it seems to take her a little bit longer to recover from them, still only a matter of an extra 10 to 20 seconds or so, but this evenings events seem to have brought things on a pace.

As I went to help to hold her through the fit, (daft tart will insist on sitting halfway up the stairs, not the best place to be when fitting) she would insist on using her claws and teeth to keep a grip. I know she doesn't mean to hurt, but the last fit resulted in some bleeding patches to my scalp, I have to take Mr P's word for this, I could feel it was a bit shock sore and painful, but he had to put the Savlon on, I couldn't see where it needed to go, but as I had a bad reaction to a previous scratch from her, I accept that it needed something doing.

I still feel that if we got her skin condition sorted, she would be a bit better, but to be honest she is still not "right". When my friend came round last week, the fact that Lily sat quite happily on the stairs rather than taking off like a rocket showed that she is not behaving "normally" for her.

I know it's really the right thing to do, but there is still a part of me that feels that in her own way she's ok. At least the dear old Cluckmeister had the decency to pop her own clogs, if you know what I mean. sad

Been away so belated flowers. Hope you are all feeling more recovered.

My MiL always had three cats. Whenever one died, another always seemed to move in. She never went looking or encouraged them, they just came.

bikergran Tue 18-Feb-14 20:08:56

really sorry for you, I was with both my DDs when one had to take tiny kitten and other DD with her dog........ like you say they give us so much pleasure but also so much pain that we think our hearts will break.

The vet and the nurse said what a very pretty cat she was, and until recently that was true (see pictures on profile, she was the white one, although I never seemed able to get a really good photo of her)

anno and Marelli thank you for the flowers, and many thanks to all who have posted flowers and good wishes, they are so much appreciated.

We adopted her in around 2003/2004, she was about 2,we're both a bit hazy on the actual dates, but the upshot is she had been with us for a long time. I like to think that she had a good life with us, although as she had so many "odd little ways" it was hard to tell!

Much love to you, Lily, you daft tart. xxx

Iam64 posted this earlier in this thread

"Better a week too soon, than a day too late". and that is what was in my mind today, and I actually quoted it to the vet.

whenim64 Tue 18-Feb-14 18:24:22

Sorry, Phoenix. It's that decision we take out of love for our companions, but never easy. flowers

Charleygirl Tue 18-Feb-14 18:16:45

It has been a difficult day in more ways than one, you deserve a little something.

Anne58 Tue 18-Feb-14 18:07:14

Thank you, having a little sniffle and a glass of wine, rare treat lately.

Not sure how Mr P will feel on being asked to go digging when he gets in.

Just fed the chaps, (we have cat biscuits available all the time, tinned food at 7.30am & 5.30(ish) pm, did feel odd just putting down two bowls

Charleygirl Tue 18-Feb-14 18:06:00

Lily is now at peace. The other cats will know what has happened. You did the right thing flowers.

You have done the kindest thing Phoenix

whitewave Tue 18-Feb-14 17:34:02

phoenix I am so sorry but in a strange way you are probably relieved. We had an SOS from our daughter during the autumn early one morning and I helped her take her 17 year old Lab to the vet it was heart breaking, but like you my daughter had been trying to make the decision for weeks - in the event Gemma decided for her as she simply stopped drinking and eating. My daughter had done a lot of grieving before and said that a huge weight had been lifted

Tegan Tue 18-Feb-14 17:32:45

You did the right thing.

Anne58 Tue 18-Feb-14 17:25:47

It's done. It was the right thing to do, although at first even the vet seemed unsure, then she saw how Lily was walking (her back legs had got quite weak).

Thankfully it was peaceful

granjura Fri 31-Jan-14 12:38:37

So true Soop...

However I personally feel that is is much better to sprend money, if at all possible- on getting the vet to come to the dog's comfortable home- rather than spend such on individual cremation, cemetary, etc. (mind you, I feel the same about people- love them before- what happens after is irrelevant to me).

Thinking of you hugs to all involved.

soop Fri 31-Jan-14 12:32:43

anno Oh dear! I'm so sorry. We called our cat Hamish McTavish Cheeky-Boy.

granjura and Tegan Whenever some well meaning person says...but it's only a cat/dog, I realise that we are not all made the same way. Rory, the retired entire from Kintyre is a loved member of our family. He came into our home from the wild, and ever since he has enhanced our lives.
