clever pets

When I am trying to use the laptop my cat Larry will gently put his paw on my cheek and turn my face towards him . Just doesn`t like me looking at the screen when he needs my attention!

My dog used to close my book when she wanted attention not worked out how to close the iPad yet

Ha! I suspected that our dog was not very clever at all.
There was an article somewhere which had some tests to see how clever your dog was.
He was every bit as non clever as I suspected!

My cat used to jump up onto the window sill when I came home from work even though she couldn't yet see or hear me..

Our dogs are taken for walks at fairly regular times, five or ten minutes before that time they come and stand next to us looking pathetic - yes it works.

Every night around 10pm, I announce that I`m going to make a drink. Our cat Mia opens her eyes, watches me, as soon as I take my glasses off she jumps down and creeps around my legs and feet till I stand up, then she races through the kitchen to her bowl, and waits for me to pour her treats into the bowl! After that she ignores me again.

My Border Collie could recognise TV theme tunes - she would appear from wherever if a favourite animal programme started - she especially enjoyed 'Animal Hospital' and would stay glued to the screen for the duration

I really believe that our pets are very much in tune with us and understand far more than we give them credit for .

When I was a child I used to get the bus home from school , the bus stop was about 5 mins walk from my house but my cat Kitty was always waiting just out of sight of the bus stop when I got off . My Mum said she started asking to go out at 4 oclock , just in time for the bus at 4.20 - I travelled to school on my own from age 6 , Gran put me on and my cousin aged 8 met me at the other end . On the way back I was allowed to walk home on my own from the bus , times have changed !

Yes, I about an IQ test for dogs. Eg: throw a blanket over them and time how long it takes for them to escape. Line up 3 upturned tubs then obviously place a treat under one and see if they figure out to knock it over. That kind of thing!

My dog can count. He knows that every evening after the dishes are washed, and kitchen finished he gets his doggie treats before we settle down for the evening.He has THREE. If he is goven only two he barks at me until he gets the third one. As soon as he has had his " Entitlements" he goes and lies down.

Years ago DH was in the Navy and away on fishery patrol duty. We lived in Plymouth with our cat Davy. One night I went to bed, Davy took up his customery place on the pillow. In the early hours of the morning I was woken by the noise of someone opening the front door. Davy heard it, just knew that wasn't usual and started growling and walking round the bed as if he was trying to warn me. It turned out to be ok, DH's ship had escorted a Spanish trawler in and the local men had been given leave. He did a similar thing a few months later when a friend having marital problems was staying with us. A knock at the door very late at night, very unusual, Davy did the growling thing again to warn us. It was her husband who had come round to see her. We have never forgotten what an amazing cat he was. In his younger days he also had a thing about jumping out of first floor windows. We never knew why, because he could I suppose.

We taught one our Bernese Mountain Dogs to count . You asked her a sum , say 2+3 and she would bark 5 times , then she got a treat.

It took people ages to fall in, she started barking as soon as I showed her a treat and the trick was to give it to her when she barked enough :-)

I came home from work on Monday to discover that Oliver Sprout had not only managed to get the tub of cat treats off the high shelf where they live, but had also somehow got the close fitting lid off and eaten them all!

I wonder how long it took him?

She sounds like Clever Hans, a German horse who could do the same, pawing the ground with a hoof to count the answer out. Apparently even her ower genuinely believed that she could count, but careful study proved that the horse was reacting to subconscious signs from the owner when he reached the right number.

Our previous cat knew that H insists on sharpening the carving knife every time he uses it. She would run from the end of the garden at the sound of him doing this, knowing there was fresh meat around.

My dog took several bags of chocolate coins off the Christmas tree, ate every single one but none of the gold packaging, never done it previously so why that year. He was fine but I wonder how long it took to open them because I have a job to!

I work from home and finish at 4 - about 3.50 he's on clock patrol by my side waiting for our walk
Bedtime and when the 10 o'clock News finishes I switch the TV off Rollo who is now 17 months old is waiting by the back door for me to open it - why I don't know since he happily goes thru the cat flap at other times - outside does a wee on command upstairs where he has a Chew and then he sits at the very end of the bed in the chocolate spot waiting for 2 (yes he can count) squares from his Woof bar ( started buying g it because we have 2 squares of dark chocolate in bed and somebody wanted ours) then he drives under the bed (it's a 4 poster - sorry not really posh just Into medieval) and we say goodnight Rollo
He only has to do it once and it's his routine

My dog has just told me it's 7am and time for his breakfast but don't they all do that!.
