I just couldn't resist sharing these two photos I've received today from cats we've rehomed this last year. I think you'll agree they look pretty relaxed and happy!!

It's so lovely that so many people take on rescue cats. I always have (and also a Heinz 57 dog at one time). They make lovely pets.

Yes Humpty go for it .... I thoroughly recommend fostering. Good luck x

seacliff, you're right, I wouldn't think of subjecting them to such a long journey. All the very best to you all in 2018. I think I will look into the possibility of fostering myself.

Our previous cat died suddenly in November aged 9. We found her dead at the bottom of the garden, we think from a stroke. We had her from 8months old, from Cats Protection. We were very, very upset.
Last week we adopted a little black cat from the same CPL foster home. She was a stray and a very young mother.
She is currently asleep by the fire, looking forward to a happy Christmas Day. Please always adopt from rescue centres, there are so many little creatures looking for homes.

Oh Humpty, that's so kind and lovely of you x. Sadly I'm in Suffolk, so really too far, sorry. They need somewhere away from busy roads, as they have little road sense. They like going out into the countryside, so need some green space near. They lived in a shed, the owner had dogs who they were scared of.

I know it takes time to be ready for a new cat, when you've lost one. I'm sure your local rescue group would try and help, when you're ready.

Old Meg, your cat lived a good long life with you, lucky cat.

seacliff where are you? your current ones sound lovely. After losing my beloved cat last year I was reluctant to take on another, but would be happy to give these 2 a home if you're anywhere near me (Oxfordshire).

The last cat we had was a rescue and she was 10. We had her for 9 years.

Yes, the kittens are usually easy to rehome. We just keep them until they are old enough and we're sure they are healthy. Chipped, snipped and jabs done. Everyone wants kittens.

It's the older cats that are harder to rehome, especially black for some weird reason, or black and white. The last three lots we have had have all been siblings that can't be separated, and all black. We have had the current ones since September, poor things. Their owner died, they were living rough. They are gentle loving cats, they just want a home of their own.

We always remember all our foster cats and hope they are OK.

Well done seacliff smile I couldn’t do what you do but always have rescue cats, sometimes two at a time, they have been lovely companions over the years.

What a brilliant thing to do seacliff and so rewarding to receive news of your fostered cats in their new homes. We have had rescued cats for years now and always send news to their fosterers to let them know how well they are doing. It is great to hear from the other side so to speak.

We foster cats for one of the well known charities. They provide a run in our garden, food and vets care. We then look after the cats/kittens until we can find them a suitable new home. Everyone in the local branch is an unpaid volunteer.

We often bring the cats into our home for a few hours, just to get them used to a house, if they were previously living outside. We give them lots of affection, patience is needed as they are often rather shy and scared at first.

We recently had two lovely 8 year old brothers in. The owners were quite elderly and reluctantly had to give the cats up, due to moving into care. It was so sad for them, but at least we could tell them we had found a loving new home for their boys.

We have just had a really lovely email and pictures from a lady who took two of our foster cats earlier this year.

It is so rewarding to get feedback - to see them happily settled in a lovely safe home and enjoying life again. Some have had a bad start in life and been ill treated etc.

If anyone is doubtful about taking on a new cat themselves, fostering is another option to consider. Yes you do have to give them up after developing a relationship with them, but it is very satisfying too.
