Trying to take my mind off what may be ahead

This morning our terrier -aged 11- didn’t get out of bed to help me feed the birds as he usually does and I assumed he had a sore paw (long story) left him a while, but after a bit I got concerned as he hadn’t moved and it seems he’s lost the use of his back legs.

We have an appointment with the vet at 11am - I’m dreading it.

Just back from the hospital. Vet met us at the door as Duncan had not been able to walk all day, he had even tried to go to the door when thepostman came and collapsed.

Stephen -vet- carried him in and said he would put him on the floor to see what if any movement he had. Duncan was gently laid onto the floor, got up and walked off!! I nearly died of embarrassment.

Rest assured I shall never start another thread like this it is toe curling ly embarrassing.

Vet reckons he has a sort joint and. it wasn’t a question that he couldn’t rather than he wouldn’t.
He even fooled this mornings vet. Dear oh dear.

So I can only apologise and thank you all for your best wishes and sympathy. You were all lovely as apposed to Duncan who is a little ass.

He is now on more painkillers and observation.!! Actually out with DH in the pouring rain for a poo, and gently exercise. I’ll give him gently exercise!!

Having lost two dogs due to hip dysplasia, common in large dogs, we reached the heartbreaking stage where nothing further could be done. I know only too well how you must be feeling.

I sincerely hope this afternoon has a positive outcome for you and your adorable boy. ??

Oh dear. What a pity he's not improved. Will hospital visit not be quite distressing for him? I'm saying this as our cat developed something potentially nasty and hospital and various intrusive tests were suggested. We discussed it and decided with heavy hearts that we couldn't put our dear old boy through all that. Next thing was the vet phoned to say that all was well and further investigation not necessary. Great news but we felt we'd been through the wringer.
Pets matter. Good luck this pm.

The trouble is we don’t know what is the matter at the moment, and really can’t make any decision blind as it were. If we decided to call it a day, I would always have that thought that we did so without knowing whether he could be treated successfully. I mean we may be clutching at straws but it could be something relatively simple.

First hurdle over! I hope you have reasonable insurance, although by the time they get to 11 you only get a percentage back. Fingers crossed for this afternoon.

Rosalyn69 Thu 27-Aug-20 12:57:48

That is encouraging. Fingers crossed.

sodapop Thu 27-Aug-20 12:43:47

Fingers crossed WWM2 sounds like there is some hope he may recover. I hope so.

We are in a similar situation with a 14 year old with tumours and a 15 year old with urinary tract problems. So sad when you realise your pet is coming to the end of their life.

Squiffy Thu 27-Aug-20 12:28:57

Fingers crossed WWM2 ???

GrannyGravy13 Thu 27-Aug-20 12:14:17

Good he is back with you, will keep everything crossed for a speedy diagnosis and recovery ??

Furret Thu 27-Aug-20 12:05:25

Fingers crossed ? WW. Let us know how he goes on ????

Whitewavemark2 Thu 27-Aug-20 11:57:41

Well back and he is still with us!

Vet tested for all the obvious things like stroke etc, with nothing apparent.

So she has started with the obvious and trying him with an injection for painkiller. If that works then we can assume something like arthritis - he’s shown no signs previously- or if it doesn’t work by this afternoon he has to go into hospital this afternoon for further tests.

Do let us know what happened when you can.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 27-Aug-20 10:59:39

Whitewavemark2 so sorry to learn your dog is poorly.
Our pets shower us with love and affection but when they leave us they take a piece of our heart with them ?

I do hope that something can be do envy for your lottle man
