Bl**dy Brexit!

I have 2 cats. One, the female, will eat anything. Some non foodstuffs even. The boy, is an awkward little s*d. He will ONLY eat Whiskas fish pouches in jelly. He has made himself ill in the past, by not eating and I have had to force feed him and drip water into his mouth.

Sooooo, onto the Brexit effect. We have a grocery delivery once a week. I arranged it last year just before the first lockdown. BUT the flippin' supermarket is sold out of Whiskas fish pouches in jelly. They are actually sold out of ALL flavours of Whiskas pouches.

Not sure what to do now!

I wouldn't mind, but he was a damn stray. He should think himself lucky to be fed at all.

That is truly shocking Lucretzia! How are you expected to eat a low fat prawn cocktail - what were they thinking? shock
My dog may have turned his nose up at that, though, he was very discerning. He would stick his nose in the air, walk off and look at me as if to say "Do you expect me to eat this muck"?

???

One time my prawn cocktail was replaced with a low fat prawn cocktail. Well I don't know about you but I find the low fat ones almost inedible. My dog enjoyed it.

But hasn't this happened to most of us?

Wherever in the world we may be.

This is really thoroughly amusing. Keep going ladies. Love it and really appreciate all the laughter I can glean. Such banter is a joy. Ta.

Just checked with AC who feeds their cat the same Whiskas pouches, no shortage in local Co-Op and Sainsbury’s (Essex)

If I am reading this right - OP is ordering something made in UK from a UK company to be delivered to somewhere in UK but it is Brexit's fault she can't get it!

I thought Whiskas was made at Pedigree Petfoods in Melton Mowbray GagaJo, when I first got married I lived in Melton, and it was a very smelly place! May have closed down now though.

They make Mars Bars too. But probably not in the same place!

Do you know if it's true that the factory has to be able to switch to producing food fit for human consumption within 48 hours? DH always comes out with that whenever anyone mentions Melton Mowbray.

I cook white fish for nextdoor's moggies and they leave roast chicken for them in the fridge. We feed them twice a day when they are away. Bloody cats eat better than we do.

I'd be prepared to own cats if I could guarantee they'd be as community spirited as yours 3dognight

Hope you find some Whiskas soon, or maybe try real fish ?
I don't have cats anymore but did have two pets and fed three strays at one point, I fed them all outside. A blackbird and his mate used to wait behind the cats to get anything bits left in the dishes, when their babies fledged they brought them too to wait behind the cats for their fix of Whiskas! Cats never bothered the birds, and nothing got wasted.

I think the Brexit link is that anything bad is blamed on it by the OP.

zooplus website is really good for pet stuff. It is a German firm however.

Thank goodness!

I haven't got a cat any more. But I do have a lawn that appears to be a cat's public lavatory. I blame bloody Brexit.

grin
So that's where they've all gone!
We used to get the neighbourhood cats in our back garden, but they've disappeared recently.

Maybe they've claimed Irish nationality?

I jest not.
A friend has a rescue dog from overseas (I can't remember quite where, Eastern Europe somewhere) and he didn't understand English.
He's very bright and has learnt now.

Does he understand English? (I am being serious btw)

We presumed our cat was English but she didn't half come running if we broke into a chorus of 'O ForTUNA.' grin

Callistemon Wed 13-Jan-21 00:00:47

He is really dim.

You said he's a Chinese cat and was a stray.
Did you being him home from China?
Is he still traumatised from the journey or is he pining?
Does he understand English? (I am being serious btw)

I'm sure it's the Covid effect and Peggy the JR would agree.

Her groan of, 'Really?' when her favourite gravy biscuit treats were replaced with milky ones made me laugh.

Callistemon Tue 12-Jan-21 23:46:20

I used to have to shut DD's dog in another room when I fed the cat because the dog would eat the cat's Whiskas in a few seconds if he could.

Sooooo, onto the Brexit effect.
I think it's more likely to be the Covid effect; all kinds of foodstuffs seem to be unavailable at one time or another. Perhaps shoppers have panic bought all the Whiskas.

You could take the Marie Antoinette approach:
"Let him eat mice"

Chewbacca Tue 12-Jan-21 23:39:51

I'm all agog waiting for the connection between an over indulged cat and Brexit. Please tell us, the suspense is too much!

MayBee70 Tue 12-Jan-21 23:32:32

I haven’t had cats for years but I do remember thinking to myself when I did that they put something addictive in Whiskas. How or why I came to that conclusion I have no idea though. But this thread has dragged it out of the recesses of my mind. Hedgehogs like Whiskas, too.

Woodmouse Tue 12-Jan-21 22:34:38

This reminds me of a saying we have in our house. "Never give it Whiskers". This was told to me many years ago by a cat owner. Essentially she told me that the minute you give a cat Whiskers you'll never get it to eat anything else. Whenever DH and I here about people who are unwilling to compromise or adjust we look at each other and say "never give it Whiskers". Unfortunately, I have broken this rule. I gave the DH Yorkshire Gold tea years ago and now he won't have anything else.

Urmstongran Tue 12-Jan-21 22:33:59

So ... the Brexit link to this? I’m not understanding it GagaJo.
?

Ellianne Tue 12-Jan-21 22:31:49

Maybe the moggie is fussy whose waters the fish have been caught in!

GagaJo Tue 12-Jan-21 22:31:46

He was bordering on dehydrated once tanith. I think he just shuts himself away and prepares to die sometimes. He once hid in the pots and pans cupboard for 2 days. I had to lure him out with tuna and even then, I had to drag him out when he shifted forward slightly. He is really dim.

I do know a cat called Brexit actually.
